Yani Neko Episode 6: Alneko’s Enoshima Detour, Penpenneko’s Cool Voice, and a Bittersweet Summer Ending

Summer anime Yani Neko aired its sixth episode, “Nyaa no Natsu ga Hajimatte Owaru Nya,” on August 7, 2026. The episode delivered the usual mix of grimy humor and unexpected warmth, featuring a missing Alneko, a new philosophical cat with a surprisingly cool voice, and a nostalgic summer finale.

A Smart Yanineko

The episode opens with Yanineko, who can’t be bothered to go to the convenience store and has had her gas cut off. She lights her next cigarette from the one she’s smoking, proudly declaring, “How smart of me.” She ignores the swarm of flies around her room’s light.

Viewers were grossed out: “Ugh, so gross,” “A filthy room full of bugs,” “Hopeless from the start,” “Too many bugs.”

Alneko in Enoshima

Alneko, the college student who speaks in a “boku” style, is at an izakaya with Kansai Neko and Yakuneko. She heads to the bathroom but, due to intoxication, walks the wrong way, ends up outside, and eventually gets into a taxi. She asks for “Ejima” (the izakaya’s name), but the driver takes her to Enoshima instead. She drinks a can of beer while watching the sunrise, and Yakuneko and the landlord come to pick her up in a light truck.

Fans were amused: “Did she say Enoshima?” “Alneko must have a GPS in her hair,” “Recovered via GPS.” Alneko even performs a “rainbow” from the truck bed.

The eye-catch featured a famous spot, leading to comments like “Is that the Enoden crossing with Alneko?” “From Slam Dunk’s sacred site to Yani Neko’s?” “Kamakura Koko-mae.” The eye-catch was drawn by metal bat duo (Keisuke Kobayashi and Junpei Tomotaka), who also voiced a radio segment in the episode.

Alneko’s voice actress, Shiori Izawa, tweeted that she now wants to go to Enoshima. Her tweet and the official account’s post captured the moment.

The Writer Cat’s Creative Struggles

Jikaki Neko (writer cat) is struggling with creative work. She tells mangaka Ochinpo Tatsurou that fragments of stories keep appearing and disappearing in her head, and she can’t get anything done. He asks to see her screen time and immediately understands—she’s a Twitter addict.

Fans sympathized: “She’s a Twitter addict,” “I know the feeling of spending more time on social media than creating,” “Top-tier looks.”

Yakuneko and the Landlord

A few days earlier, the landlord and Yakuneko are driving to pick up Alneko. The car radio plays a talk show by the metal bat duo. Yakuneko lights a cigarette, and the landlord quietly rolls down the window for her. Their awkward conversation about gorillas and blood types drew reactions like “This atmosphere,” “The awkwardness of riding with someone you don’t talk to much,” “Reminds me of all-night drives with friends,” “Why is this like a romantic comedy?”

The song playing was “Boku wa Darling” by Suzuki Nyanichi. Landlord voice actor Tetsu Inada revealed that the landlord has been humming this song since episode 1. His tweet explains the connection.

Ochinpo Tatsurou and the Assistants

Ochinpo Tatsurou’s usual assistant can’t make it, so the editor arranges three female assistants from a temp agency called “Kemo no Te.” The three cats—Inoue, Tanaka, and Yamada—arrive and start working. After two hours, only one panel’s blacking is done. Tatsurou is frustrated but tries to stay positive, praising them. As the deadline looms, he gets more irritated and eventually snaps, telling them to work quietly and not show him until a page is complete. The assistants are shocked.

Viewers noted the tension: “It’s getting tense,” “Only two panels in a whole night,” “When you’re at your limit, you get harsh,” “The truth came out.”

Later, Tatsurou apologizes for being harsh. He manages to finish the manuscript using a “gauge” he can only use five times in his life. The assistants vow to train harder.

The assistant cats are voiced by Honoka Inoue (Inoue), Yuki Takada (Tanaka), and Eri Yukimura (Yamada).

The Unattached Penpenneko

A new character, Penpenneko, appears, boiling grass and living a carefree life. When Yanineko points out he has no money, he philosophizes about not being bound by social values. His voice is surprisingly cool, and viewers were taken aback: “That’s his voice?” “He sounds like Mika from Girls und Panzer,” “He’s like Snufkin,” “What a cool voice for a beastman.”

The voice is provided by Yuu Kobayashi, known for Sasha Braus in Attack on Titan and Ayame Sarutobi in Gintama. She tweeted about her role.

Penpenneko lives in a tent by the river, but a heavy rain causes the river to flood, washing away his tent. He cries, “My tent! My home!”—unable to let go of his attachment.

Summer Comes to an End

Yanineko smokes on the beach, watching the sunset. At night, she finds discarded fireworks and holds one in her mouth like a cigarette, murmuring, “Summer is over.” The screen shows a “Don’t imitate this” warning.

Fans reacted: “Don’t smoke fireworks,” “Don’t imitate, seriously,” “A beautiful way to end summer.”

Overall, episode 6 was relatively clean compared to previous ones. Viewers noted the beautiful water animation and the nostalgic atmosphere. Some called it the “healing episode” of the season.

Post-Broadcast Comments

Yakuneko voice actress Misato Matsuoka tweeted about the beautiful depiction of smoke, sea, and vomit, and the tense atmosphere of the pre-dawn drive. Her tweet praised the episode’s artistry.

Ochinpo Tatsurou’s voice actress Riko Akechi praised the character’s human-like flaws and the landlord-Yakuneko scene. She also referenced the official interview.

Hame Neko’s voice actress Yurie Funato admired the delicate balance of beauty and filth. Her tweet called it a “beautiful summer episode.”

Jikaki Neko’s voice actress Niina Nakabayashi described the episode as “everything shining—sea, vomit, sun, aura, fireworks—a soul-cleansing episode.” She shared her thoughts on social media.

Director Taku Kimura noted that the drive scene’s music was composed and sung by Keiichi Suzuki. His tweet highlighted the luxurious addition.

Yani Neko airs every Thursday at 24:30 on TOKYO MX, BS11, and AT-X, with additional broadcasts on AT-X starting July 25. Streaming begins every Thursday at 25:00 on Netflix and other platforms.
