A brand-new stop-motion anime series from the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Tales: The Adventure of Negigana Knight and Pichu, has been officially announced. The series is set to begin streaming on Disney+ in 2027.
The production is being handled by Aardman, the acclaimed animation studio behind Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Gromit. Aardman has won four Academy Awards, as well as BAFTA and Annie Awards, earning worldwide recognition for its craftsmanship.
Story and Setting
The story takes place in the vast Galar region. Negigana Knight and Pichu set off on an epic adventure to protect the Pokémon that inhabit this land. Along the way, they face unexpected troubles in unknown territories and build lasting friendships and bonds with new companions. The series will showcase Aardman’s signature warmth and humor through its stop-motion animation.
Announcement at Pokémon XP
The announcement was made on August 28 (local time) during the Pokémon XP event held in San Francisco, USA. Attendees from The Pokémon Company International included Phil Linda, Director of Pokémon Original Animation. From Aardman’s production team, director Tom Parkinson, IP Creative Director Nat McKay, and Model Making Creative Lead James Young also appeared on stage. A teaser key visual was unveiled during the event.
