Resident Evil New Film Japanese Dub Cast Revealed: Hiro Shimono and Saori Hayami Lead the Terror

The new live-action Resident Evil film, a completely fresh adaptation of the iconic survival horror game franchise born in Japan in 1996, will hit theaters nationwide on October 9, 2026. Following the announcement of its Japanese release, the Japanese dub version has also been confirmed, with Hiro Shimono voicing the protagonist Brian and Saori Hayami as his girlfriend Michelle. Cast Details

Shimono, known for his roles as Zenitsu in Demon Slayer, Connie Springer in Attack on Titan, and Jimmy Olsen in Superman (2025), brings a sense of humanity to Brian with his performance that shifts between trembling fear and determined resolve. His portrayal adds a comedic touch to the horror, making the character feel surprisingly relatable. Audiences will likely find themselves cowering alongside him in the theater.

Shimono commented, “Honestly, it’s scarier and funnier than anyone can imagine. I’ve played many characters, but it’s rare to have a role that goes through so much terror. I used every kind of scream and fearful voice a human can make.” He admitted that he ran through the entire 90 minutes of dread alongside Brian.

On the other hand, Hayami, known for her roles as Yor Forger in SPY×FAMILY and Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer, voices Michelle, a woman who talks to Brian over the phone while he is trapped in Raccoon City. Her presence becomes a reason for Brian to keep moving forward despite the despair. Hayami described the role: “She is the person he wants to return to, but she also sometimes corners him. I kept both aspects in mind while acting.” She also shared her nostalgia as a franchise fan: “I encountered the series at a friend’s house in elementary school. I was scared and bad at gaming, and I died many times early on in Resident Evil 4. I’ve been mainly watching others play ever since. I never imagined I’d get to participate in it with my voice.”

The main character isn’t a superhero—he’s a very ordinary delivery man who gets asked to deliver medical supplies to Raccoon City, a hellish place. For 90 minutes, he cowers, screams, and runs from one attack after another! As a voice actor, I’ve taken on many roles, but it’s rare to play someone who faces this much terror. And I really did produce all kinds of screams and fearful sounds, so please listen in the theater and experience the 90 minutes of fear together with the protagonist. However, I can’t guarantee your survival after 90 minutes. Eeeek! That was Shimono Hiro!

Saori Hayami (Michelle)

Michelle is Brian’s girlfriend, who exchanges words with him over the phone while he heads to Raccoon City. She is the person he wants to see alive, but she also can drive him into a corner. I played her with both sides in mind. I first met the series at a friend’s house when I was in elementary school. I was scared and bad at the controls, so when I borrowed Resident Evil 4 and tried it alone, I kept getting “You are dead” at the start. I’ve been watching others play ever since. I never imagined I’d be part of it with my voice. Please enjoy the terror of the Japanese dub at the cinema.
