The summer anime Yani Neko aired its 12th and final episode, “Nyaa wa Saishuu Kai demo Yani o Suu nya,” on September 24, 2026 at 24:30. The series, based on Nyan Nyan Factory’s manga in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, follows beastmen who smoke and live lazy lives in a world where humans and beastmen coexist. It reached the end of its run without being canceled despite repeatedly pushing broadcast limits, and the finale arrived with the usual “Nanmo Nee” spirit.
The story centers on Yani Neko (real name Satou Yaniko), who has no money, no life skills, and no manners or morals—she threw them away with her cigarette butts. Her daily life with other lovable lowlifes is dirty but somehow encouraging.

Dandelion Warning and O●npo Tatsurou’s Cancellation
In the familiar messy room, Yani Neko lies down and casually eats a dandelion. A warning telop appears on screen. Viewers reacted with lines like “Don’t eat dandelions lol,” “Is it safe to eat dandelions?” and “A ‘danger’ telop right after eating dandelions is perfectly on brand.”
Her apartment neighbor, manga artist O●npo Tatsurou (real name Tatsuno Saori, 32), is reeling after his serialization is canceled. He briefly smiles when he sees a crepe shop, but then remembers his past and concludes that he has no right to buy a crepe. Yani Neko passes by and treats him to a crepe, and they eat together.
O●npo Tatsurou became a fan favorite, with comments like “Tatsurou chewing is cute,” “I like his hamster-like way of eating,” “He might be the most decent personality in the show,” and “After all, O●npo Tatsurou-sensei is my favorite.” Nakabayashi Niina, who voices Jikaki Neko, posted on social media, surprised that Tatsurou would treat someone even in that situation. Even after his cancellation, Tatsurou remains kind.
Yaku Neko Spins and Gets Fired
After Yani Neko finishes taking out the trash, her junior Yaku Neko approaches with a bat. Asking, “Senpai, do you want to try too?”, she presses the bat’s tip into the apartment yard, puts her forehead against the grip, and starts spinning. Round and round and round.
It is the classic guruguru bat. She chases the dizzy high with a drink called “Strong Neko.” Yaku Neko, it turns out, has been fired from her part-time job. She tearfully asks who has the right to ruin a person’s future over a single line from their past. Yani Neko cuts in: “That’s why you’re not a person, nya.”
Fans responded: “Yaku Neko getting fired up with Strong after guruguru bat is the best lol,” “Yaku Neko was my favorite,” “I’m glad we got to see broken Yaku at the end,” “I want Yaku Neko to be happy,” and “Yaku is the MVP because episode 2 made me keep watching.”
Among the beastmen, Yaku Neko is relatively quiet, and the landlord also looks out for her. She is a sinful cat with a past she cannot speak about, but everyone watches over her warmly.
Imoko’s Misunderstanding
Yani Neko’s younger sister, high schooler Imoko, is heading home from the beastman apartment when the small, boyish college student Al Neko (24) returns home. Imoko sees Al Neko buying a large amount of alcohol and mistakenly assumes she has toxic parents. When Al Neko tries to drink, Imoko warns her that it is an adult drink. She imagines that Al Neko is turning to alcohol because she cannot get juice. Then Kansai Neko, a college student who speaks in a Kansai dialect, arrives, and Imoko mistakes her for Al Neko’s mother and begins lecturing her: “Can I have a moment?”
Viewers found the mix-up adorable: “Imoko-chan is the conscience of this show, but her assumptions are worrying,” “Imoko mistaking Kansai for a parent is too cute,” “The person Imoko is looking after is older than her lol, she’s misunderstanding everything,” “Imoko’s mistaken meddling is a handful lol,” and “She basically can’t help but take care of people.”
Imoko may be a bit clumsy, but she is serious, dependable, and an honors student. With her cute looks, she is popular both at school and online.
Jikaki Neko’s Microbikini
Jikaki Neko, who models for manga artist O●npo Tatsurou, is troubled by her own talent as a writer. She laments, “I feel like I have no talent…,” while wearing a microbikini. Viewers were captivated: “Too sexy,” “Jikaki Neko has a great figure,” “I can feel the attention to detail on her side,” and “Microbikini whoa!”
Akechi Riko, who voices O●npo Tatsurou, wondered why Jikaki Neko did not refuse to model in such a strange swimsuit. Funato Yurie, who voices the fighting-game beastman Hame Neko, also reacted: “Jikaki Neko-chan is too sexy…”
O●npo Tatsurou gives her very sensible advice and encourages her, saying she has what it takes to become a pro. Jikaki Neko then goes home still in the microbikini.
Yani Neko vs. the Landlord
Yani Neko is exhausted from a part-time job that consists of digging holes, filling them, and repeating. She badmouths the apartment landlord, saying, “That guy just sweeps the yard with a broom all the time, nya. He’s definitely got nothing better to do.”
When Yani Neko shouts, “I’ll give you more work, nya!”, and dumps cigarette butts and ash from the second floor, even the landlord snaps. The battle between Yani Neko and the landlord begins.
Hame Neko starts a live stream: “Everyone~. Today’s ‘Hame-chan Channel’ is live commentary on a bald vs. tar-stained bald catfight~.” Yani Neko leaps down from the second floor with her fist raised, and the landlord meets her. A spectacular cross counter lands.
Pennpen Neko, a homeless cat, watches Yani Neko mutter, “I’m not done yet, nya,” as if it were someone else’s problem. The end of the anime Yani Neko approaches.
Viewers reacted to a shout heard during the fight: “Did he say Universe? lol,” “He just said Universe, didn’t he lol, don’t mix in Turn A,” and “Did I mishear? Inada-san? lol.” The shout seemed to include a famous moment from Harry Ord, whom Inada Tetsu played in Turn A Gundam, broadcast from 1999 to 2000.
After the broadcast, Inada revealed that the “Universe!” heard in the death match between Yani Neko and the landlord was requested by Osatou-sensei, a manga artist active as a member of Yani Neko’s original creator group Nyan Nyan Factory.
In the final moments, the past blunder of Yani Neko’s mother, Satou Shizue, is exposed.
Fans React to the Final Episode
The finale brought out many reactions online, with viewers worried the show might be banned for being too wild, yet happy that the main characters all appeared and the series completed its one-cour run. Comments included: “What a dirty final episode,” “Great job bringing out all the regulars,” “It goes back to the start of episode 1, nya. Now I can loop it forever,” “Yani Neko loss…,” “It starts with diarrhea and ends with diarrhea, what a crappy anime…,” “Man, it was the lowest and the best anime,” “I’m so glad all episodes actually aired to the end…,” and “I feel healed.”
Cast and Staff Comments After the Finale
Director Kimura Taku said it was his first time directing a TV series, but thanks to wonderful staff and cast, he was able to make the best work. He added that the original manga still has many funny stories that have not been animated and encouraged everyone to buy and read the manga. He closed with, “Thank you for the yellowed youth.”
Inada Tetsu said he was glad the show completed safely. His cosplay that matched the anime also became a topic. He commented: “Yani Neko was fun! I got to experience so many things, and made lots of enjoyable memories. The response was huge, and more than anything, I was happiest that everyone laughed while watching. Even now, about eight people a week tell me they’re watching it. For season 2, I’m ready anytime!”
Matsuoka Misato used emoji to express the beginning and ending “thing” and continued: “The residents and everyone around them all gathered, and we got to see the usual daily life! I was happy! The final episode should have been lonely, but I laughed and somehow I’m not lonely! Also, the text is kind of smelly so I’m not lonely! Amazing!!”
Funato Yurie revealed that the time she spent playing Hame Neko was a series of challenges. In a long post, she wrote that she made sounds into the microphone that she had never let anyone hear in her life, and though she feels she lost something as a human, she thinks she grew as an actor. She also said she desperately hopes for season 2 and wants to keep watching the stories of the apartment residents.
Akechi Riko wrote sadly: “It’s over……………… It’s over…………………… Did it really end…………………………” She continued with words of thanks: “Being entrusted with Tatsurou-sensei’s voice, becoming a resident of the apartment, enjoying Yani Neko together with everyone… These three months were nothing but fun! Yani Neko will never end!”
Nakabayashi Niina said she was very happy to appear as Jikaki-chan and that the final episode was packed with many things. She also used emoji for the “thing.” It was truly a packed work.
Final Episode Surprise: “Nanmo Nee ~Juunin Daigasshou ver.~”
As a surprise in the final episode, the opening theme “Nanmo Nee” was released as “Nanmo Nee ~Juunin Daigasshou ver.~” performed by the apartment beastmen. The chorus features Yani Neko (Natsuyoshi Yuuko), Yaku Neko (Matsuoka Misato), Hame Neko (Funato Yurie), Kansai Neko (Shimizu Ayaka), Al Neko (Izawa Shiori), O●npo Tatsurou (Akechi Riko), and the landlord (Inada Tetsu). It is a literal grand chorus and a must-listen, nya.

The TV anime Yani Neko aired every Thursday at 24:30 on TOKYO MX, BS11, and AT-X. From July 25, it also began airing every Saturday at 24:30 on AT-X. Streaming began every Thursday at 25:00 on Netflix and other streaming services.
