Haikyuu!!’s Ongoing Anime Momentum
Haikyuu!! is based on Furudate Haruichi’s volleyball manga, which ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2012 for eight and a half years and has surpassed 75 million copies in circulation. The TV anime began in 2014 and aired through its fourth season by December 2020.
The February 2024 film Gekijouban Haikyuu!! Gomisuteba no Kessen depicted Karasuno’s rivalry match against Nekoma and surpassed 20 billion yen in worldwide box office. It also received the Japan Academy Prize for Excellent Animation Work. Two follow-up projects are scheduled for 2027: Gekijouban Haikyuu!! VS Chiisana Kyojin and the special anime Haikyuu!! Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro.
Gekijouban Haikyuu!! VS Chiisana Kyojin will depict the quarterfinal matches Karasuno Koutou Gakkou vs Kamomedai Koutou Gakkou and Fukurodani Gakuen Koutou Gakkou vs Mujinazaka Koutou Gakkou, held on the same day at Tokyo Taiikukan.
