The autumn 2025 anime season features several titles starring vampires, such as 『Chanto Suenai Kyuuketsuki-chan』 (which can be translated as “The Vampire-chan Who Can’t Quite Suck Blood”) and 『Fujimoto Tatsuki 17-26』.
Vampires, creatures that feast on human blood, are a familiar presence in the world of anime. They boast near-immortal lifespans, turn numerous humans into their subordinates, transform into bats, or even blend seamlessly into human society… From classic gothic portrayals to modern interpretations, these characters showcase a diverse range of styles depending on the work they appear in.
To celebrate their enduring popularity, Anime!Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Who are your favorite vampire characters?” for the first time in three years. We received 603 responses during the survey period from November 5th to November 10th.
The gender ratio was approximately 40% male and 60% female, indicating a slightly higher participation from women. Regarding age groups, about 45% were under 19, and roughly 20% were in their 20s, making younger demographics the primary respondents.

■From the Weakest to the Strongest: Vampires are Full of Individuality!
1st Place
The 1st place goes to Dralc from 『Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu』 (which can be translated as “The Vampire Dies in No Time”). He garnered approximately 14% of the votes.
Dralc is the weakest vampire in history, instantly turning into sand with just a small amount of damage. Readers commented, “When you think of vampires, you often imagine something eerie and scary, but Dralc turning into sand with a ‘Sunaaa…’ sound just from being surprised is hilarious,” and “True to the title, he’s incredibly fragile and dies right away. Though he resurrects just as quickly, of course.” Many praised him for being a character who completely subverts conventional vampire tropes, with one reader stating, “I don’t know any other vampire anime that portrays immortality in such a comedic way.” Comments also highlighted his relatable, human-like aspects, such as “He has an armadillo familiar, he’s great at housework, and he loves games — his mundane traits make him very approachable.” These charming qualities are surely a reason for his widespread affection. In 2025, an event celebrating the 4th anniversary of the anime adaptation is scheduled, with a screening of popular episodes set for December 5th.
2nd Place
Taking 2nd place is Remilia Scarlet from 『Touhou Project』, with approximately 11% of the votes.
Remilia Scarlet is the vampire who reigns as the mistress of Koumakon. Readers shared, “She has a small appetite and can’t absorb much blood, often spilling it, which earned her the nickname ‘Scarlet Devil.’ Despite her appearance as a young girl, her dignified aura and how she commands her companions at Koumakon perfectly embody a noble vampire!” Another fan enthused, “The gap between her appearance and her age of over 500 years is irresistible. I also love ‘Septette for the Dead Princess,’ the BGM that plays during her battles.” Notably, her younger sister, Flandre Scarlet, also ranked in at joint 10th place, showing the popularity of both sisters.
3rd Place
In 3rd place is Alucard from 『HELLSING』, securing about 7% of the votes.

Alucard is a vampire belonging to the Hellsing Organization, a Royal Protestant Knights Order in Britain. Voters praised him for his overwhelming strength and complex emotions towards humans, saying, “He’s a protagonist who possesses both superhuman strength and profound spirituality. While literally a monster, he has a melancholy air, as if yearning for the humans who challenge him, creating a unique depth. Jouji Nakata-san’s voice in the anime made him even more cool and charismatic.” Another comment highlighted, “It’s fascinating how Alucard, a vampire, speaks of human nobility and dignity, which in typical stories would be expressed by human characters.”
■Introducing Other Comments!
Mori Ranmaru from 『Babanbababanban Vampire』 (which can be translated as “Bababanbababan Vampire”) received comments like, “The premise is so fresh – a 450-year-old vampire who nobody believes, living as a lodger in an onsen. It’s hilarious how every time he tries to protect the purity of his benefactor, Ri Jin-kun, it always leads to some bizarre outcome.”
For Kiryuu Miharu from 『Witch Watch』, a fan noted, “She plays the role of a model student at school, but in reality, she can be quite overconfident and has a rough side, which is very cute and comforting. As a vampire, she doesn’t drink blood but rather ‘life energy,’ so I don’t find her scary at all (laughs).”
Regarding Sakuma Rei from 『Ensemble Stars!』, a response read, “Although he calls himself a vampire, his visual appearance — black hair, beautiful red eyes, and fangs peeking out from his mouth — is that of a vampire. He even used to sleep in a coffin.”
For D from 『Vampire Hunter D』, a voter shared, “He is a Dhampir, born from a vampire and a human, and makes his living as a vampire hunter. Perhaps due to the secrets of his birth, he is very taciturn, but the talkative human-faced tumor parasitizing his left hand tells us many things.” This classic title, which recently saw a revival screening this year, also received votes.
In the 2025 edition, a wide array of vampire styles were ranked, from comedic vampires to dark heroes and heroines. It’s exciting to anticipate what kind of vampire portrayals we will see in the future!
