Get ready for some sweet, heart-fluttering news! The popular Boys’ Love (BL) comic “Shota Oni” by Nakayama Miyuki, serialized in Square Enix’s Gangan BLiss magazine, is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. Shota Oni Volume 6 Cover

“Shota Oni” is a beloved BL series that revolves around the relationship between a devoted, earnest “shota” who yearns to be seen as more mature and a gentle, easygoing high school “oniisan” (big brother). It paints a picture of their sweet, healing daily life, meticulously detailing the innocent interactions between Tsubaki, who earnestly wishes to make Yuu’s heart race, and Yuu, who finds Tsubaki utterly adorable.

The original comic volumes have surpassed a cumulative 850,000 copies in circulation, garnering a dedicated fanbase. Volumes 1 through 6 are currently available, solidifying its place as one of the flagship titles in Gangan BLiss.

Why the Title Change? The Story Behind “Ore to Yuu-ni!”

For the anime adaptation, the title is changing from the original “Shota Oni” to “Ore to Yuu-ni!”. Regarding this shift, original author Nakayama Miyuki commented that considering the broader reach of an anime and the potential issues with using a category name as the title, the decision was made to go with “Ore to Yuu-ni!” for the animated version.

The production committee also released a statement, explaining that after extensive discussions with all related parties for the visual adaptation, “Ore to Yuu-ni!” was chosen as a name that warmly conveys the charm, worldview, and character of the series while being more approachable and relatable for a wider audience.

Alongside this announcement, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the TV anime “Ore to Yuu-ni!” has been launched. Future updates and production progress will be shared periodically through this official channel.

This is exciting news not just for existing fans of the manga, but also for anyone looking to discover a new, heartwarming story. We can’t wait to hear more about the cast, broadcast schedule, and other details in the future.

Celebratory Illustration from Nakayama Miyuki for Ore to Yuu-ni! Anime

“A manga I drew as a hobby has, thanks to the support of so many people, connected to a huge future: an anime adaptation. Thank you all so very much!

For this anime adaptation, I was allowed to create a new title for the anime version. Since it started as a purely hobbyist manga I updated on social media, I used an easy-to-understand category name as the title. However, considering the circumstances that can arise from using a category name as a title for a wider-reaching anime, we decided to go with ‘Ore to Yuu-ni!’ for the anime.

Since the title is different between the manga and the anime, it might feel a bit strange to those who have been familiar with it until now. But the core is the same, and they are making an anime that is even more wonderful than that. I truly hope you will look forward to it!

I myself am incredibly excited to see the story and the characters move! Please look forward to the anime ‘Ore to Yuu-ni!’!”

Production Committee Comment

“This title was decided upon after repeated discussions with all related parties for the visual adaptation, aiming for a form that would reach more people. In consultation with the original author, Nakayama Miyuki-sensei, we prioritized the work’s charm, worldview, and character essence, resulting in ‘Ore to Yuu-ni!’ as a name that conveys approachability.

We ask for your understanding regarding this decision and for your continued support. Further news and production progress will be announced sequentially on the official SNS. – TV Anime ‘Ore to Yuu-ni!’ Production Committee”
