NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen 2025: Performance Order, Timetable, Hosts, Songs, and Special Features Summary [Starts Wednesday, December 31st at 7:20 PM]

What is the Kohaku Uta Gassen?

The NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen is the legendary year-end song festival that started way back in 1951. Divided into the Red Team (women) and White Team (men), it’s brought countless iconic tunes that defined the eras to our radios and TVs. As NHK wraps up its 100 years of broadcasting, this year’s theme is “Connecting, Connected, New Year’s Eve.” It carries the hope that wonderful music will continue to connect people for the next century, too.

Even 80 years after the war, 2025 has seen its share of divisions, from natural disasters and rising prices at home to ongoing conflicts abroad. That’s exactly why the Kohaku aims to be a show that connects and bridges gaps across time, generations, gender, language, and race—all through the power of music. They’ve shared their wish for this to be “a special day to close out the year, where everyone becomes one through music.”

Once again, the Kohaku is set to deliver the strongest, most spectacular stages, not just across Japan but to the entire world. Last year in 2024, the White Team snatched victory after two years, bringing the total score to Red Team: 34 wins, White Team: 41 wins. We can expect another heated musical battle in 2025. Who will take home the win? The excitement is already building.
