About ‘Sousou no Frieren’
‘Sousou no Frieren’ is a manga series running in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday, with original story by Yamada Kanehito and art by Abe Tsukasa. The story is set in the “aftermath” of a world where the Demon King was defeated by a hero and his party. It follows the journey of Frieren, an elf mage who has lived for over a thousand years and helped defeat the Demon King, as she travels with new companions to understand human hearts. The comic volumes have sold over 32 million copies worldwide, creating a whirlwind of popularity among manga fans.
The TV anime adaptation, which aired its first season from September 2023 to March 2024, will return for a second season. Frieren’s journey to the land where souls rest, Aureole, continues with her companions: Fern, a mage raised by their former party member Heiter, and Stark, a warrior who is the disciple of another former companion, Eisen. For the second season, while first season director Saitou Keiichirou moves to a supervisory role, director Kitagawa Tomoya and studio Madhouse will helm the animation production.
