A Giant Dragon Descends Upon the Screen! Singer Kobayashi Sachiko Also Joins the Cast for “Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu”

Kyoto Animation’s latest theatrical film, Eiga Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu (which can be translated as “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon”), is set to premiere on June 27, 2025. It has just been revealed that the renowned singer Kobayashi Sachiko, who is also performing the ending theme song for the movie, will be participating as a voice actress, lending her voice to a character who is the leader of a formidable dragon troop.

About the Film

Eiga Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu is the newest highly anticipated film from Kyoto Animation, the acclaimed studio behind such celebrated works as Eiga Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice: The Movie) and Gekijouban Violet Evergarden. This movie takes popular episodes from Coolkyoushinsha’s original manga, currently serialized in Futabasha’s “Manga Action”, and brings them to life on a grand and engaging scale.

Serving as a continuation following the delightful TV anime’s first season in 2017 (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon) and the equally charming second season in 2021 (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S), this new film, under the direction of Ishihara Tatsuya, promises to deliver an unmissable and touching exploration of a “family story”.

Kobayashi Sachiko Joins the Cast as a Dragon Leader!

This exciting new information was unveiled during the completion stage greeting event held earlier today, May 26, 2025. Kobayashi Sachiko made a special surprise appearance on stage and announced that she will be voicing the character “Felicitas”, a powerful dragon who is part of the Kimun Kamui forces and serves as the leader of a small, specialized unit.

Kobayashi-san, who is not only providing the heartfelt ending theme but is now also lending her voice to the film, shared her thoughts, commenting, “This is my very first time playing a dragon role. I had so much fun! When you think of dragons, they appear in countless different fantasy worlds, but ‘Maid Dragon’ has such gentle, warm art that it made me feel incredibly relaxed and happy.” She added warmly, “It is a truly wonderful film, a wonderful anime. Please be sure to watch it and feel that warm, comforting feeling too.”

Stage Greeting Events Announced

Following the exciting casting news, details regarding several stage greeting events have also been released. Fans will have opportunities to see the cast and staff across four consecutive days: a special pre-release event on June 26th, the official opening day event on June 27th, and public release commemorative events on June 28th and June 29th.

On June 26th, the evening event at Marunouchi Piccadilly is scheduled to feature Naga nawa Maria, Kuwahara Yuuki, the newly announced voice actress Kobayashi Sachiko, and Director Ishihara Tatsuya. The opening day event on June 27th at Shinjuku Piccadilly will feature Tamura Mutsumi and Director Ishihara Tatsuya.

Looking ahead, on June 28th, a stage greeting will take place across three theaters: TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho, TOHO Cinemas Ueno, and MOVIX Saitama, featuring Naga nawa Maria, Tamura Mutsumi, Kuwahara Yuuki, Sugiura Shiori, and Director Ishihara Tatsuya. The grand finale on June 29th at Marunouchi Piccadilly will be a large gathering of the cast and staff, including Tamura Mutsumi, Kuwahara Yuuki, Takahashi Minami, Sugiura Shiori, Ono Daisuke, Nakamura Yuuichi, Katou Emiri, Ishihara Kaori, Tachiki Fumihiko, and Director Ishihara Tatsuya – a total of ten attendees! I am Kobayashi Sachiko, and thanks to all of you, this June will mark my 61st year in the industry. Over this extensive career, I’ve had the opportunity to work on various projects, including some voice acting roles, but this is indeed my first time ever playing a dragon character!
I must say, I had so much fun!
When one thinks of dragons, they are creatures that appear in so many different worlds and stories. However, “Maid Dragon” has such gentle and warm art, truly heartwarming, that it made me feel incredibly relaxed and happy while working on it.
It is genuinely a wonderful film, a truly wonderful anime.
Please, everyone, go see it and experience that warm, comforting feeling for yourselves.
