An Exciting Return! All 3 Seasons of Chihayafuru Anime to Stream for Free on TVer
The first through third seasons of the TV anime Chihayafuru, totaling 75 episodes, will be available for sequential streaming on the commercial TV streaming service “TVer” starting June 11, 2025. With the continuous drama Chihayafuru -Meguri-, which depicts the world 10 years after the live-action film Chihayafuru, set to begin airing on the Nippon Television network on July 9, this is a perfect opportunity to catch up on or rewatch the entire anime series.
Chihayafuru is based on the manga by Suetsugu Yuki, which began serialization in Kodansha’s “BE・LOVE” magazine in 2007. It’s a vivid youth story that passionately depicts the lives of high school students dedicated to competitive karuta.
From its early serialization, the original work gained popularity not only among female readers but also male readers, thanks to its delicate art style contrasted with intense and powerful competitive scenes, as well as themes revolving around family and friendship. It received the “Manga Taishou” award in 2009 and ranked first in Takarajimasha’s “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2010 Onna-hen,” earning support from manga fans nationwide. The manga has surpassed 29 million copies in cumulative circulation.
The TV anime adaptation was produced by Madhouse, with Asaka Morio directing. The first season aired from October 2011 to March 2012, the second season from January to June 2013, and the third season from October 2019 to March 2020. The main cast members included Seto Asami as Ayase Chihaya, Hosoya Yoshimasa as Wataya Arata, Miyano Mamoru as Mashima Taichi, Kayano Ai as Ooe Kanade, Nara Tooru as Nishida Yuusei, and Yonaga Tsubasa as Komano Tsutomu.
The streaming on “TVer” will commence sequentially, with one episode added daily starting at noon on June 11. The second season is scheduled to begin streaming from July 6, and the third season from July 31. Each episode will be available for viewing for one week from its release date. Please note that the streaming schedule may change without prior notice.
With the continuous drama Chihayafuru -Meguri-, a sequel set 10 years after the hit live-action films (released in 2016 and 2018 starring Hirose Suzu), set to air from July 9, this streaming event on TVer is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the anime series leading up to the new drama.
