Episode 12, titled “Men Who Saw Tears,” aired to an enthusiastic response from fans who have been waiting for this moment. The episode sees Rei, the master of Nanto Suichou Ken, fully commit to protecting Mamiya’s village after initially being a spy for the Ga clan. Whether it was his survival instinct or his inherently kind nature, Rei’s change of heart delighted viewers.
Meanwhile, the Ga clan, furious at Rei’s betrayal, plots to seize the increasingly prosperous village. The stage is set for a clash between the two martial arts masters and the ruthless clan.
In this article, we pick up real-time fan reactions from X (formerly Twitter) to the episode, highlighting the excitement and emotional moments.
※ Spoiler warning: The following contains detailed plot points from Episode 12. Proceed with caution if you have not watched it.
Rei’s Popularity Soars!

In the episode, Kenshirou discovers a Ga clan lookout and uses his pressure point technique, warning him not to move or he’ll go “Bonda.” The thug ignores him and chases after Kenshirou, only to explode before catching up. Fans loved Kenshirou’s ruthless efficiency, with comments like “Kenshirou is still so mean to villains!” and “He had no intention of saving him from the start.” The “Bonda” line became a fan chant.
Some viewers also noted the voice acting, paying tribute to the late Daisuke Gouri, who voiced characters in the earlier Toei Animation version. “I can feel a bit of Daisuke Gouri in the performance,” one fan posted, recalling the nostalgic screams.

Kenshirou then comes across Rei, who is calmly facing a large group of Ga clan members. “Why is someone who only moves for profit here?” Kenshirou wonders. Rei taunts the hesitant enemies, saying, “Well-spoken wolf-san.” Fans found the honorific “san” adorable. The tension breaks into battle as Kenshirou and Rei realize they both “are weak to women’s tears.” They fight back-to-back, decimating the Ga clan in a shower of blood. “Facing both Hokuto and Nanto at the same time is just unlucky,” laughed viewers. “This is the first time Kenshirou has fought alongside someone,” noted another.
When a villain receives the Hokuto Senjuukaiken and falls with a cry of “Awa-byu!”, fans echoed the sound. Rei finishes him off with “Then die now,” a line that got a huge reaction.

After the battle, Rei shares his precious water with Kenshirou, showing his trust. Kenshirou asks why Rei is searching for a man with seven scars on his chest. Rei reveals that the man killed his parents and kidnapped his beloved sister Airi on her wedding day. The anger and hatred are immense. Viewers, knowing Kenshirou himself has seven scars, joked, “There’s the man with seven scars right there!” and “Kenshirou: ‘Uh oh…'” But Kenshirou has no memory of the crime. He tests Rei by asking, “What if I also have seven scars on my chest?” Rei’s eyes flash with hatred for a moment, but he quickly dismisses it as a bad joke, seeing no guilt in Kenshirou’s eyes. Fans praised Rei’s judgment and the budding friendship.

Back at the village, Kenshirou and Rei attend the funeral of Mamiya’s younger brother Kou. Meanwhile, the Ga clan mourns their fallen “children” with a cruel ritual, sacrificing innocent people. Fans commented, “The Ga clan’s bond is something Jackal should learn from,” and “They still dare to challenge Kenshirou and Rei? That’s bravery.”
Mamiya, determined to fight as a leader, is told by Rei that she shouldn’t—because she is a woman. In this world, men fight and women are protected. But Mamiya insists she has “abandoned being a woman.”

Then comes the iconic scene. Rei tears Mamiya’s clothes, and as she covers her chest, he declares, “If you weren’t a woman, you wouldn’t need to hide your chest.” He continues, “Listen, a woman only needs to think about her own happiness.” This stems from his past failure to protect Airi. Fans erupted at the famous moment. The episode also shows a heartwarming scene of Rei giving chocolate to children, which softened viewers.
Kenshirou and Rei then set off to confront the Ga clan, a true partnership of Hokuto and Nanto.

But just before the final battle, Rei freezes in shock. He sees his sister Airi, being led away by someone, her expression broken. The episode ends there. Fans lamented, “It ends here?!” and “Right at the good part…” Next week promises the long-awaited reunion between Rei and Airi, and the revelation of what she has endured.
