In a groundbreaking move, two of the most iconic anime studios in Japan—Sunrise and Shaft—have announced their first-ever collaborative anime project. A dedicated X (formerly Twitter) account has been launched, kicking off a countdown to the full reveal.

Sunrise, a studio under Bandai Namco Filmworks known for legendary franchises like the Gundam series, Love Live!, and Code Geass, has been producing original anime that resonate with audiences for over 40 years.

Shaft, founded in 1975, is celebrated for its distinctive visual style in works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series. The studio handles planning, production, and management of animation for TV, film, commercials, and games.
The new project, simply titled “Sunrise × Shaft New Anime,” has already posted a teaser video featuring a color script that offers a glimpse into the world of the upcoming work. The countdown will run for five days, leading up to a full information release on June 23 at 24:30 JST (effectively midnight on June 24).
With both studios bringing their unique strengths to the table, fans are eagerly awaiting what this unprecedented collaboration will produce.
