Ahare! Meisaku-kun Returns to TV After 4 Years in July 2026 with New Frederic Theme Song

The beloved short-form anime parody series Ahare! Meisaku-kun is making a triumphant return to television after a four-year hiatus. The new season is set to premiere on July 5, 2026 (Sunday) at 24:45 (effectively Monday at 12:45 a.m.) on TV Tokyo and its five affiliated stations: TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting.

Originally airing for six years from 2016 within NHK E-Tele’s “Bitworld” segment, Ahare! Meisaku-kun became a viral hit for its irreverent, comedic homages to classic stories from Japan and abroad. The show’s YouTube channel has surpassed 500,000 subscribers and accumulated over 580 million total views. The series follows Matsuda Meisaku, an obsessive “masterpiece otaku” who transfers to a bizarre school where legendary characters like Momotarō and Cinderella are trained to become proper classic heroes.

Alongside the announcement, a new key visual and promotional video have been released on YouTube. The theme song for the revival is a brand-new track titled “Nonsense Nonsense”, written and performed by the popular band Frederic, known for their smash hit “Odoru Loop.” The catchy tune perfectly matches the show’s surreal comedy style.

Both director Shinkai Gakuto and Frederic have shared their excitement about the revival.

Director: Shinkai Gakuto

“We really made you wait! ‘Ahare! Meisaku-kun’ is restarting! The E-Tele broadcast ended in March 2022, and the YouTube ‘Ryugu-hen’ arc concluded in March 2023. After three years and four months, we can finally show you new episodes. I’m truly grateful to the cast who continue to perform, the staff who work with me, and everyone who has been waiting for ‘Meisaku-kun.’ From here on, it’s my turn to give back. The new theme song is by Frederic. Their playful music felt like a perfect fit for ‘Meisaku-kun,’ and the moment their name came up, I said ‘Please!’ (Incidentally, Tsurukō’s go-to karaoke song is a Frederic tune – check the fan book.) The new series starts late at night on July 5. I’m sure Meisaku-kun and friends are looking forward to meeting everyone again.”

Theme Song Artist: Frederic

“For this project, we aimed to express the world of ‘Ahare! Meisaku-kun’ with its nonsense gags and laughter in our own Frederic style. Since childhood, I’ve loved laughing over silly, meaningless things. I think those moments, even if pointless, can spark creativity and playfulness. I wrote the song reflecting on that feeling. I’d never thought of writing a song themed around laughter before, but the anime gave me the chance to take on a new challenge, and I’m grateful a wonderful track was born. Instead of rushing to find meaning or answers, cherish those trivial moments! We hope both children and adults will enjoy the bizarre, wordplay-filled world of ‘Nonsense Nonsense.'”
