Shabake Anime Adaptation Reveals More Cast, Theme Song, and First Promo!
Get ready for the spooky and mysterious world of Shabake! The official website for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Hatakenaka Megumi’s historical mystery novel series recently dropped some exciting news, including additional cast members, details on the opening theme song, a fresh new visual, and the very first promotional video.
The anime is set to premiere in October 2025, airing on Fuji TV’s noitaminA programming block. But if you can’t wait that long, there’s good news! An early screening event featuring episodes 1 through 4 is scheduled to be held in Tokyo on August 23rd.

From Pages to Screen: The Source Material
The Shabake anime is based on the popular historical mystery novel series penned by Hatakenaka Megumi. The novels first began publication in December 2001 under Shinchosha’s Shincho Bunko imprint, featuring illustrations by Shibata Yuu (@oekakishibata on X). The series is ongoing, with the 23rd volume set to be released on July 18th.
In addition to the novels, a manga adaptation by Mimori was serialized in Comic Bunch from January 2017 to March 2023. Shinchosha collected the manga into four volumes, with the final volume shipping in June 2023.
