The summer 2026 anime Toumei na Yoru ni Kakeru Kimi to, Me ni Mienai Koi o Shita. (also known as Kakekoi) has released the synopsis and scene cuts for Episode 1, titled “Deai” (Encounter), which will air on July 6, 2026.
Based on the light novel by Shiba Nanigashi published under SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint, the series won the Grand Prize at the 15th GA Bunko Awards and ranked third in the overall new work category of “Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2024.” The story is a pure love romance that has been praised for its delicate writing and emotional impact. It was also adapted into a live-action drama in December 2025 starring Riko Nagase and Daisuke Fujiwara.
The anime is directed by Yuzuru Yoshizaki, with animation production by Makaria. The cast includes Miyu Irino as Kakeru Sorano, Saori Hayami as Koharu Fuyutsuki, Konomi Kohara as Yuko Hayase, and Yohei Azakami as Ushio Narumi.
The story begins on a spring night. Shy university student Kakeru Sorano reluctantly attends a welcome party organized by his dorm roommate Ushio. There he meets Koharu Fuyutsuki, a blind woman who laughs easily and dreams openly—the complete opposite of Kakeru. After he picks up her white cane one day after class, the two gradually grow closer. “I want to see fireworks.” Kakeru, for the first time, looks straight at the light hidden in those words. This is a tender love story between a girl who cannot see and a boy who has closed his heart.
Episode 1 “Deai” (Encounter)
Kakeru reluctantly attends the welcome party. As he watches the lively crowd from a distance, he notices a table with only two people sitting awkwardly. It seems everyone else drifted away after learning that Koharu is blind. The assertive Yuko asks Kakeru to help Koharu during lectures. Although reluctant, Kakeru ends up having tea with Koharu after picking up her cane…
