Pomupomu Purin Takes the Crown for the First Time in 9 Years, Shinamoroll is Second After 5 Consecutive Wins in the Sanrio Character Daishou [Final Results Announced]
The final results for the “2025nen Sanrio Character Daishou,” the popular voting event for Sanrio characters, were announced on June 29, 2025. The total number of votes reached a record-breaking 63,160,696. Taking the glorious first place was **Pomupomu Purin**, achieving this feat for the fourth time and the first time in nine years. **Shinamoroll**, who had reigned supreme for the past five consecutive years, secured a strong second place.
The “Sanrio Character Daishou” originated in Sanrio’s company paper, “Gekkan Ichigo Shinbun,” in 1986 and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. It is a popular voting event where characters selected from over 450 Sanrio characters are entered, and their ranking is decided by the number of votes received. Anyone can easily participate, and last year’s total vote count hit a record high of 57,074,053. Every year, the results announcement causes a huge buzz, with related terms heavily trending on X (formerly Twitter).
Under the theme “Jump! To the Future With You!”, this year’s key visual featured characters powerfully jumping towards the future. The “2025nen Sanrio Character Daishou” saw the total vote count reach an all-time high of 63,160,696 votes, 111% compared to the previous year. Taking first place was **Pomupomu Purin** (4th place last year). Pomupomu Purin secured a large number of votes not just domestically but also from overseas, maintaining the top position in both the initial quick report and the interim announcement. In the final results, Pomupomu Purin reclaimed the first spot for the first time in nine years, making it the fourth win overall. The characters in the TOP3 shared their comments.

Taking second place was **Shinamoroll** (1st place last year), who had a five-year winning streak until now. Third place went to **Pochakko** (2nd place last year), who holds a record of five consecutive wins in the 1990s and has made a remarkable recovery in recent years. This means that the TOP3 were dominated by Sanrio’s three major dog characters! Following closely, **Kuromi** (3rd place last year), celebrating her 20th anniversary year, ranked 4th, and **Haro Kiti** (5th place last year), who celebrated her 50th anniversary last year, ranked 5th. These results truly highlight the global strength of these characters.

Furthermore, **Maimerodi** and **Ritoru Tsuinstaaruzu**, both celebrating their 50th anniversaries this year, ranked 6th and 7th respectively. **Hangyodon**, celebrating his 40th anniversary, ranked 8th.
Members of **Hapidanbui**, a unit formed by six boy characters (Pochakko, Hangyodon, Takishido Samu, Ahiru no Pekkuru, Baddu Batsumaru, Kerokero Kerokki) celebrating their 5th anniversary, also made it into the TOP20. Among them, **Ahiru no Pekkuru** achieved a TOP10 ranking for the first time in 31 years since 1994. Additionally, **Hanamaruobake**, in its third year since debut, climbed from 14th to 12th place, and **Usahana**, popular primarily in North America, moved up from 20th to 17th place.
“40th Anniversary Special Award” & “Jump! Up Award”
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Sanrio Character Daishou, the “40th Anniversary Special Award” was presented to the character who ranked 40th. This award went to **Taini Cham**, Haro Kiti’s friend. Also, in line with this year’s theme “Jump! To the Future With You!”, the “Jump! Up Award” was given to characters who significantly improved their rank. This award was shared by **Chokokyatto** and **Puwawa**, both jumping up 22 ranks! Chokokyatto, gaining popularity overseas, leaped from 46th to 24th place, while Puwawa, a baby sea monk, made a great leap from 82nd to 60th place compared to last year.
In the Partner Division, **Rappii × Sanrio Kyarakutaazu** shone brightly, taking first place! A comment full of joy was received from the winning Rappii: “Thank you for choosing us as No. 1! It’s such an honor to collaborate with all the Sanrio characters!”

The 40th “2025nen Sanrio Character Daishou Results Announcement Stage” was held on DAY2 of the “SANRIO FES 2025” event, which took place from June 28th to 29th at Exhibition Halls B~D of Pashifiko Yokohama. After the results were announced, Ano, who was entered in the Partner Division as “Ano × Baddu Batsumaru,” appeared as a special guest, generating great excitement in the venue. Ano, who appeared in a refreshing blue gingham check dress, commented on the “Sanrio Character Daishou,” and much to the audience’s surprise, Baddu Batsumaru, whom Ano loves dearly, also made an appearance!
