Sumikko Gurashi: Pink Penguin (Hina) Debuts in Refreshing "Pengin Lagoon" Theme Goods

Get ready for a splash of cuteness! From the ever-popular *Sumikko Gurashi*, a new theme titled “Pengin Lagoon” is arriving with a bunch of adorable items, including a brand new pink penguin (hina) character. Plushies wearing cute outfits and many other goods are set to go on sale starting in early August.

San-X’s *Sumikko Gurashi* characters are based on the concept of finding peace and comfort in corners (“sumikko”). Their slightly negative yet unique personalities and charming world have captivated generations, from children to adults, celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2022.

The franchise saw its first animated film, *Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko*, released in 2019, followed by the second, *Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Aoi Tsuki Yo no Maho no Ko*, in 2021, and the third, *Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Tsugihagi Kojo no Fushigi na Ko*, in 2023. Looking ahead, the first stage adaptation, the puppet musical *Puppet Musical Sumikko Gurashi Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko*, is scheduled to run from August 16, 2024.

Starting in April 2025, a TV anime series, *Sumikko Gurashi Koko ga Ochitsukun Desu*, began airing on Nihon TV’s morning information program “ZIP!”. Furthermore, the fourth *Eiga Sumikko Gurashi* film is planned for release this autumn.

The story for the new *Sumikko Gurashi* theme “Pengin Lagoon” follows Pengin?, who lacks confidence, as they head to the Pengin Lagoon searching for a green penguin. There, they have a heartwarming encounter with a pink penguin (hina). Becoming friends with the little one makes Pengin? feel a bit lighter, wondering, “…Maybe there’s a green penguin here after all…?”

“Pengin Lagoon”‘s new items include the super cute “Tenori Nuigurumi” plushies dressed in charming outfits, and the “Secret Card & Sticker Collection” which features character profiles and stickers in a blind pack format. Other items include “Vertical & Horizontal Index Holders,” “Hair Ties,” “Cross Memos,” “Matomarukun” erasers, and “Scented Beads.”
