Fans of the beloved stop-motion penguin Pingu can soon add a new set of cute collectibles to their daily carry. From July 30, 2026, capsule toy exclusives featuring Pingu and his friends will roll out at select locations under the “Kapuebo” brand.
Two types of items are being released: a smartphone strap and a face pouch, for a total of ten designs. The smartphone strap (699 yen, tax included) features a clear acrylic chain and a colorful handle, measuring about 18 cm in length. Each comes with a mini acrylic charm showing Pingu’s expressive face and a phone tab illustrated with a scene from the series. Five color variations are available: green, black, red, yellow, and pink.
The face pouch (749 yen, tax included) is a die-cut, charm-attached pouch roughly 13 cm wide — small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and easy to carry around. Its soft, fluffy texture and endearing expressions are the main appeal. The lineup includes five designs: “Namida” (tears), “Uwame” (upward glance), “Yosomi” (looking away), “Mumumu” (a grumpy pout), and the rare “Akumu (Tod)” — a sea lion character from the series.
Pingu was created by Swiss filmmaker Otmar Gutman as a stop-motion animation. A test film that served as the prototype was made in 1980, and 2025 marked the 45th anniversary of that original creation. Since 1990, the TV series has aired in over 155 countries and regions, winning hearts worldwide with the warm, humorous adventures of the little penguin and his friends. Currently, the exhibition “Kawaii dake janai!? Pingu-ten” (Not Just Cute!? The Pingu Exhibition) is being held at YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in Tokyo.
These limited capsule toy items let fans enjoy a variety of Pingu’s expressions — from crying to anger to playful side glances — making them a must-watch for collectors.
