Yu-hachi’s Surreal and Gentle Worlds Come to Life: ‘Dekai Hachi’ and Two More Works Get Short Anime in October 2026

Creator Yu-hachi, known for a soft, surreal art style that has taken social media by storm, is bringing three of his most beloved works to the screen. The short anime anthology, titled Yu-sanchi! from Yu-hachi, will begin airing in October 2026 on Fuji TV’s Nonstop! and Kantele’s Shunkan LIVE Toretate!.

Yu-hachi has amassed a total of 490,000 followers across social media as of June 2026, and his works have been nominated for the Web Manga category of the “Next Manga Award” two years in a row (2024 and 2025). Collaborations with Sanrio, Keio Electric Railway, and Shimamura have also drawn widespread attention, earning him a fanbase that spans from young people to families.

The three series adapted for Yu-sanchi! from Yu-hachi are all fan favorites on social media:

  • Dekai Hachi — follows the gentle, humorous daily life of a mysterious 40-centimeter-long creature and a human.
  • Miseban no Supisu — centers on a mysterious fish named Pisu-chan who suddenly appears one day.
  • Aa, Tanuki wa Mou Damedesu — depicts life with rental tanuki, with the memorable line “Oshimedaa.”

The three shorts will be presented in an omnibus format. A teaser visual brings together Dekai Hachi, Pisu-chan, and the tanuki, while a teaser PV shows the characters in motion while preserving the original’s relaxed charm.

Animation production is handled by Fanworks, the studio behind Hai! Myaku Myaku desu, the Sumikko Gurashi film series, Aggressive Retsuko, Chikkip Dancers, and Uchuu Nanchara Kotetsu-kun — all known for creating cute anime that appeal to both adults and children.

Rareko, who directed Chikkip Dancers and Aggressive Retsuko, serves as director and series composer for Miseban no Supisu and Aa, Tanuki wa Mou Damedesu. Kinoshita Gaku, who directed Sumikko Gurashi: Koko ga Ochitsukundesu, takes the director’s chair for Dekai Hachi.

Rareko commented: “I’m working on these while having fun and changing the flavor. Each work is full of Yu-hachi-sensei’s unique perspective. Please look forward to it!” Kinoshita Gaku added: “These strange characters blend into ordinary everyday life. I approached the production with the aim of letting viewers get to know their personalities — mischievous, naughty, pure — and become interested in them.”

Original creator Yu-hachi expressed gratitude: “The anime adaptation came about thanks to the help of those around me and the support of everyone who has read the original. Thank you so much for always cheering me on. I hope you enjoy the anime-original characters and world, which are different from the manga.”

Original Creator: Yu-hachi

“I am active as a creator on social media. The anime adaptation came about thanks to the help of those around me and the support of everyone who has read the original. Thank you so much for always cheering me on. I hope you enjoy the anime-original characters and world, which are different from the manga. I will continue to put effort into the original manga, so I would be happy if you continue to support me. Thank you very much.”

Director of ‘Miseban no Supisu’ and ‘Aa, Tanuki wa Mou Damedesu’: Rareko

“I served as director for two works, ‘Miseban no Supisu’ and ‘Aa, Tanuki wa Mou Damedesu.’ Taking on two completely different concepts at the same time was very stimulating — it felt like ordering a set of gyudon and curry. I’m working on them while changing the flavor and having fun. Including Kinoshita-san’s ‘Dekai Hachi,’ these three works have different colors, but all are charming pieces packed with Yu-hachi-sensei’s unique perspective. Please look forward to them!”

Director of ‘Dekai Hachi’: Kinoshita Gaku

“Simply putting ‘cute’ at the forefront would be a little different for Yu-hachi’s works. These are strange characters that blend into ordinary, everyday life. I approached the production with the aim of letting viewers get to know their personalities — mischievous, naughty, pure — and become interested in them. If you close your eyes, I hope you can imagine a fluffy yellow creature sitting next to you, saying ‘piaa, piaa.'”
