The new anime film Mobile Police Patlabor EZY File 2 opens in Japanese theaters on August 14, 2026. To mark the occasion, a faithful reproduction of the “Chinese-style curry” from the series’ Shanghai-Tei restaurant is now on sale, and the annual collaboration with standing soba chain Meidai Fuji Soba has also kicked off.

About Patlabor EZY
Mobile Police Patlabor EZY is a completely new anime in the Patlabor series, released in theaters as a full 8-episode story across three chapters. Episodes 1 through 6 are standalone stories, while episodes 7 and 8 form a continuous narrative that brings the new Second Section to its greatest crisis yet.
Directed by Izubuchi Yutaka, with scripts and series composition by Itou Kazunori, original character designs by Yuuki Masami, and costume design support by Takada Akemi, the cast includes Uesaka Sumire, Toya Kikunosuke, Koshimizu Ami, Kobayashi Naohiro, Satou Setsuji, Matsumura Yuzu, and Hayashibara Megumi.
The story is set in 2030s Japan, where a shrinking workforce has pushed automation and AI technology forward. Once cutting-edge, labor mecha now support society’s infrastructure, while piloted standalone models are becoming obsolete as autonomous robots replace them. Yet the job of Special Vehicles Section 2 — protecting people and the city — remains unchanged. The Second Section faces new tech crimes with wit and courage aboard the AV-98Plus Ingram, a tuned-up version of the old Type 98. File 1 (episodes 1–3) was released on May 15, and File 2 (episodes 4–6) follows on August 14.
Shanghai-Tei Chinese-Style Curry
The “Mobile Police Patlabor EZY Shanghai-Tei Chinese-Style Curry” fully recreates the recipe for the “Chinese-style curry” left behind by Sakimiya Hayao, the former owner of Shanghai-Tei who appears in File 2. Developed with the cooperation of Iwamoto Tadashi, chairman of the Japan Western Food Association, the curry uses pork, bamboo shoots, sweet bean sauce, oyster sauce, shiitake mushrooms, and other Chinese cooking ingredients.
Also released at the same time is “Nosan Nika Rice 1kg.” When purchased together, customers receive a card featuring Yuuki Masami’s illustration (random from 5 types).
Meidai Fuji Soba Collaboration
For the collaboration with Meidai Fuji Soba, special visual posters and tapestries will be displayed at select stores until August 24. The visuals and copy feature the “Korokke Soba,” a menu item long associated with Patlabor. This time, the Sangenjaya store has been added to the list, referencing the Sangenjaya location that appears in File 2.

At the Akihabara Denkigai, Kichijoji, and Shinagawa stores, Patlabor figures will also be displayed in sample cases. To commemorate the collaboration, the official Meidai Fuji Soba X (formerly Twitter) account is running a giveaway where one winner receives a collaboration visual poster.
