My Melody & Kuromi: Fluffy, Cute Plushies and Tote Bags Appear! Focus on Netflix Anime and Mellowsaromiusa Designs
A large variety of new goods will be released to hype up the “matching” anniversary year for Sanrio’s popular characters, My Melody (50th anniversary) and Kuromi (20th anniversary)!
My Melody debuted in 1975. She’s a cheerful and honest girl born on January 18th, who is very caring towards her younger brother. Her treasure is the cute hood her grandma made for her. Her hobby is baking cookies. Her favorite food is almond pound cake, and her dream for the future is to become a pastry chef. As a member of the Sanrio Characters, she continues to be loved by many fans as she celebrates her 50th anniversary.
Kuromi might seem rough, but she’s actually a very girly character. She debuted in 2005 and calls herself My Melody’s rival, and she absolutely *loves* handsome guys. She was born on Halloween (October 31st), and her charm points are her black hood and pink skull. Her favorite food is “rakkyou” (pickled scallions), and her hobby is keeping a diary. She’s also obsessed with romance novels, and her favorite color is black. She’s striving to Kuromify the whole world.
To celebrate My Melody and Kuromi’s anniversary year, there will be lots of exciting projects in July and August!
As the first phase, the “Netflix Original Anime My Melody & Kuromi Design Series” will appear on July 17th, commemorating the release of the Netflix stop-motion animation series My Melody & Kuromi. On the same day, the “Secret Charm” series featuring historical designs will also go on sale.
The second phase will be the release of the “My Melody Kuromi Mellowsaromiusa Design Series” on August 8th.
■”Netflix Original Anime My Melody & Kuromi Design Series”
This series is themed around the stop-motion animation Netflix series My Melody & Kuromi and features designs that look like felt mascots, with items that seem to have jumped right out of the anime world.
Their fluffy forms and expressive visuals are adorable. The collection includes a total of 23 items, from everyday items like “Plushies,” “Mascot Holders,” “Tote Bags,” “Set of 3 Drawstring Pouches,” and “Pouches,” to three-dimensional items like “Dollhouses” and “Secret Mascots.”
Select Sanrio shops (34 stores only) will have photo spots inside, and a limited quantity of “A5 Clear Files” will be available as a first-come, first-served purchase bonus.
■Historical Design “Secret Charms”
These are limited edition items available at 34 Sanrio shops and the Sanrio Online Shop. They feature My Melody and Kuromi’s historical designs as “Secret Charms,” with 20 designs for My Melody and 10 designs for Kuromi.
You can enjoy past popular visuals and nostalgic looks. They have been reborn as small charms and are randomly packaged, with one charm per set, priced at 990 yen each (tax included).
■”My Melody Kuromi Mellowsaromiusa Design Series”
This series is a remake of the “Mellowsaromiusa” collection released in 2009, which featured My Melody and Kuromi wearing “rabbit suits.” The new design incorporates heart-shaped quilting patterns reminiscent of Y2K (Year 2000) style and fluffy rabbit suits.
The lineup includes a special limited edition “Soft Vinyl Face Doll” in a box, as well as “Plushies,” “Mascot Holders,” “Vanity Shoulder Bags,” “Tote Bags,” “Pouches,” “Keyholders,” “Sticker Sets,” “Secret Straps,” and more, for a total of 22 items.
Customers purchasing items totaling 2,200 yen (tax included) or more in stores will receive one limited-quantity “Heart-shaped Uchiwa” (fan) as a purchase bonus. Also, select Sanrio shops (34 stores only) will have photo spots and a “My Melody ◯ Kuromi ‘ppo’ Diagnosis” event planned exclusively for Sanrio+ members (◯ is a heart mark).
