Idol Otaku Return to the World’s Largest Doujinshi Fair
The world’s largest doujinshi fair, Comiket, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, and two of anime’s most passionate idol fans were among the attendees: Snow Man’s Sakuma Daisuke and Kis-My-Ft2’s Miyata Toshiya. Both took to X to share their experiences at Comiket 108, held at Tokyo Big Sight, drawing massive reactions—Sakuma’s posts alone racked up over 180,000 likes and more than 1,000 comments.
Sakuma Daisuke’s Massive Haul
Sakuma, a self-proclaimed anime otaku, posted a photo from the venue with a triumphant message: “Comiket 108, thank you for your hard work!!!! I was able to join again this year!!!! I got a ton of loot!!!! It was the best again!!!!” He later revealed that his haul consisted of 41 books. He also shared moments of browsing weapon replicas and interacting with Yuyushiki manga creator Mitsukawa Komata. You can see his posts here and here.
Miyata Toshiya Braves the Rain
Miyata also reported in, sharing that despite a sudden downpour, the experience was unforgettable. “Comiket was fun!! It started raining, and I said to my friend, ‘I don’t care if I get wet, protect the loot!’ We both ended up with soaking wet backs, but that’s all part of the Comiket experience. The things I bought stayed dry!” he wrote. His post can be seen here.
Sakuma’s Kagerou Project Cosplay
August 15 marked “Mekakushi Day,” a special date for the Kagerou Project, the multimedia series created by vocaloid producer Jin (Shizen no Teki P). To celebrate, Sakuma posted a cosplay photo of Kano, a character he has long loved. “I completed Mekakushi with a Kano cosplay, and a dream came true. I want to do more Kagerou Project cosplay!” He also credited Miyata for helping with the costume: “Thanks to Miyata-kun’s cooperation, I could do a serious cosplay!
