The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation has released a special collaboration quiz based on the upcoming film Eiga Meitantei Pretty Cure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu. Titled “Eiga Meitantei Pretty Cure! Kanji Kentei,” the original worksheet is now available on the official Kanji Kentei website and at the Kanji Museum in Kyoto.
Learning Through Detective Play
The foundation aims to foster interest in language through kanji and Japanese learning. This collaboration draws on the themes of the Pretty Cure series, which has been beloved by children since its debut in 2004. The latest TV series, Meitantei Pretty Cure!, which began airing in February 2026, follows the Pretty Cure team as they use deduction to protect everyone’s smiles. The film, opening on September 18, brings that detective adventure to the big screen with a “hanamaru big” mystery.
The quiz is designed to let children enjoy the fun of thinking and finding answers while familiarizing themselves with words. It includes kanji writing problems inspired by the movie’s story, a question about the difference between the words “meitantei” and “tantei,” and tracing exercises for kanji and katakana to help with letter shapes and writing.
Levels and Accessibility
The writing problems correspond to Kanji Kentei levels 10 (end of first grade), 9 (end of second grade), and 8 (end of third grade). For preschool children, the word problems are presented in a multiple-choice format, so they can participate without writing. The inclusion of katakana tracing also allows children at different learning stages to join in, from those just starting to write to those already studying kanji.
With six questions in total, the quiz encourages children to aim for a “hanamaru solution” while exploring the fun of kanji and Japanese alongside the Pretty Cure characters.
