The long-awaited new film in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series, Gekijouban Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, is set to hit theaters on August 28, 2026. Ahead of its release, two types of visitor gifts have been announced, along with a live viewing of the opening stage greeting and a midnight screening on the first day.
The film is a completely new theatrical anime produced by the core staff reuniting, including general director Shinbou Akiyuki, scriptwriter Urobuchi Gen, and character original designer Aoki Ume. It continues directly from the shocking ending of the 2013 film Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, depicting the story of the new world created by Akemi Homura, who became a demon out of her feelings for Madoka, and the magical girls who descend once again.
For moviegoers, two visitor gifts will be distributed. The first-come gift is a Magica Quartet tokusei shikishi (special autograph board) featuring messages from general director Shinbou Akiyuki, scriptwriter Urobuchi Gen, and character original designer Aoki Ume. It will be given out starting on the opening day, August 28, while supplies last.
The weekly visitor gift for the first week is an Aoki Ume kakioroshi mini shikishi-fuu card [vol. 1] (newly drawn mini shikishi-style card). Three designs are available at random: Madoka & Kyubey, Sayaka, and Mami & Nagisa. The distribution period runs from August 28 to September 4, while supplies last.
Additionally, a live viewing of the opening stage greeting will be held on August 29 at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo. Scheduled to appear are Yuuki Aoi, Saitou Chiwa, Kitamura Eri, Nonaka Ai, Mizuhashi Kaori, Asumi Kana, and Katou Emiri. The live viewing will be broadcast to theaters nationwide, with tickets priced at 2,700 yen.
On the opening day, August 28, a midnight screening will take place at select theaters starting from 0:00. Pamphlets and goods will go on sale from 22:00 on August 27. Visitor gifts will be distributed from the start of admission. Check the official website for details.
