A new limited-edition castella featuring the Moomin Ancestor is set to go on sale from September 1, 2026. The “Moomin Ancestor Castella” will be available at Moomin shops, the Bunmeido online shop, and Bunmeido Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro, in limited quantities.
The Moomin Ancestor
The Ancestor is a small troll covered in long gray fur who quietly lives in the Moomin family’s bathing hut. Said to be a thousand-year-old Moomin ancestor, this fluffy, round character is known for its free-spirited and adorable nature. Surrounded by its favorite things and moving about with a charmingly restless energy, the Ancestor has brought comfort to many fans.
Castella Design
For the first time ever, the Ancestor appears on a Bunmeido product. The castella features an illustration of the Ancestor sitting calmly, and comes in an S-size honey castella that can be cut into 4 to 6 pieces.
Wrapping Paper
The wrapping paper expresses the Ancestor’s world, surrounded by the favorite items it has gathered for comfort. The design is inspired by the room where the Ancestor famously turns all paintings upside down except its own favorite, and features a blue wallpaper motif. The lower part of the wrapping paper incorporates a yellow tone reminiscent of castella, giving the product a calm color scheme distinct from previous Moomin collaborations. Moomin himself also appears on the wrapping paper, inviting fans to search for him while enjoying the Moomin atmosphere. An introduction to the Ancestor is also included.
Label Design
The label shows the Ancestor peeking out from the side. Both the wrapping paper and label are limited-edition designs created exclusively for this product. The castella, wrapping paper, and label each feature different illustrations, allowing fans to enjoy various expressions of the Ancestor.
This castella offers a moment of relaxation alongside a sweet treat.
