The eighth episode of the TV anime Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari (Smoking Behind the Supermarket), titled “Finding Each Other from Behind the Supermarket,” aired on August 27, 2026. And if the internet’s reaction is anything to go by, viewers were left completely breathless by a string of heart-pounding moments that brought the two leads closer than ever.

Based on the manga by Jinushi, which began on X in March 2022 and now runs in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan, the story follows the unlikely bond between Sasaki, a tired 45-year-old office worker, and Tayama, a 24-year-old supermarket employee with a slightly eccentric fashion sense. The two share quiet cigarette breaks behind the store, gradually opening up to one another. The anime, directed by Suzuki Rihito and Mori Aoi, features animation by Asahi Production, with Sasaki voiced by Sato Takuya and Tayama by Hoshiki Narumi.
This episode kicked off with Tayama realizing he has lost the portable ashtray Sasaki gave him. As he frantically searches, fans couldn’t help but note how much he treasures it. His relief turns to confusion when he finds a toy called the “Baybe Beblade” under a recycling box—actually dropped by Chief Maezawa’s son—and the absurd name got a laugh out of social media users.
Two days later, Tayama still hasn’t found the ashtray. He tells the friendly dog Daisaburou that he has to apologize to Sasaki. Unbeknownst to him, Sasaki overhears the whole thing and comes up with a plan involving the dog. The next time he visits Tayama’s register, he hands over a portable ashtray—and Tayama, overwhelmed with gratitude, grabs Sasaki’s hand in both of his. Sasaki’s face turns bright red, sending fans into a frenzy.
Viewers flooded social media with comments like “Sasaki-saaan!!”, “He’s blushing and frozen!”, and “That’s love, that’s love!!” The moment even earned comparisons to a rom-com, with one fan declaring, “This is too pure for a middle-aged man.”
Sasaki also brings a bag of “Inu Chuchu-ru” dog treats for Daisaburou, and while trying to give them, Tayama appears. A brief psychological battle ensues as Sasaki pretends he knows nothing, but Tayama simply thanks him sincerely. Fans teased both characters for not being honest, with one writing, “Just tell each other already!”
Later, a typhoon forces the supermarket to close early, and Sasaki is left standing outside, looking lost—with his bangs down. This casual hairstyle change instantly became a favorite among fans, who gushed, “Wet-haired Sasaki is too attractive,” and “He should always keep his hair like that.”
Tayama invites him to their usual spot behind the store, and the two end up talking about how they started smoking. Sasaki admits his college ex-girlfriend got him hooked, which prompted amused reactions. Tayama then shares a story from eight years ago (previously touched on in episode 6).
Seeing Tayama’s gentle expression, Sasaki says, “You’ve always admired that person, haven’t you?” Tayama blushes and replies, “Is that so?”—a moment so sweet that fans exploded with “Kyaa!!!” and “She’s so cute!” The scene became the most talked-about moment of the episode.
The episode closes with Tayama looking at the portable ashtray and murmuring, “I’m glad I didn’t say it kind of looks like Sasaki-san.” That final line left viewers screaming about mutual feelings.

The anime airs every Thursday at 11:56 p.m. on TBS and its 28 affiliate stations, with early streaming on ABEMA and Netflix. The TV version’s opening theme is “Ichijiku Kemuri” by Zutomayo, and the ending is “Fiction” by imase. The ABEMA version features “Kuzuri Nen” and “NIGHT DANCER” respectively.
