Manga Ending Announcement
The official X account for Mokumokuren‘s Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu (The Summer Hikaru Died) manga announced on Tuesday that the series will end in two chapters. The 50th chapter is scheduled for release on October 13, with the 51st and final chapter following on October 20.
Serialization and Volumes
Mokumokuren originally posted the horror mystery manga, also known by its short name Hikanatsu, on their X (formerly Twitter) account before beginning regular serialization on the Young Ace UP web magazine in August 2021. Kadokawa published the ninth volume on July 4. Hikanatsu has a cumulative 5 million copies of its volumes in circulation, including digital editions.
Light Novel Adaptation
Nukaga Mio began penning a light novel adaptation under the Kadokawa Shoten label in December 2023. Kadokawa released the second volume in June 2025.
English Release
Yen Press licensed the manga in English in September 2022 and released the fifth volume on March 18, with the sixth volume scheduled to go on sale on October 28. The company also licensed the light novel adaptation in English in October 2024 and released the second volume on May 12.
Anime
Produced by CygamesPictures (now Cypic), the first season aired in Summer 2025, with Netflix streaming the series worldwide with subtitles in multiple languages. A second season is currently in production.
Awards
Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu placed first in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 Rankings in the male readers category and was nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho Award in 2023. The manga also placed 11th in 2022 Next Manga Award in the web manga category.
