Prepare for another thrilling installment of the Dandadan anime as Episode 18, aptly titled “We Became Family,” is set to premiere on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
This wild ride of an occult battle and coming-of-age story originates from Ryuu Yukinobu’s highly popular manga, serialized on Shueisha’s Shounen Jump+ app, boasting an impressive circulation of over 10 million copies. The plot plunges us into the lives of Ayase Momo (known to her friends as Momo), a high school girl born into a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Takakura Ken (affectionately called Okarun), an enthusiastic occult maniac. Their lives take an extraordinary turn after they encounter bizarre entities beyond comprehension, gaining hidden powers and cursed abilities. With these newfound strengths, they confront menacing oddities while unexpectedly stumbling into a fateful romance.
The first season of the TV anime, featuring Wakayama Shion as Ayase Momo and Hanae Natsuki as Takakura Ken, captivated audiences from October to December 2024. For its second season, Yamashiro Fuuga returns to direct alongside Abel Gongora, with animation production expertly handled by Science Saru.

Episode 18: Unforeseen Chaos and Unexpected Bonds
Last time, viewers were treated to a truly hilarious and unexpected twist! The unique method of switching between Jashii and Jiji – using cold water to revert to Jashii and hot water to become Jiji again – drew comparisons to the classic “Ranma ya nake w”, sparking much amusement and chatter online.
Now, in Episode 18, the chaos escalates dramatically when a single drop of soy sauce accidentally lands on Jiji’s hand, instantly transforming him into Jashii and causing half of the Ayase household to be demolished! Ayase Momo understandably frets, wondering if their entire home will be gone by tomorrow at this rate. But wait, there’s more! What seemed like a mysterious visual kei band suddenly appears at the Ayase residence.

Don’t be fooled by their flashy appearance; this enigmatic group is none other than HAYASii, a band summoned by Hoshiko with the crucial mission of finally exorcising Jashii from Jiji’s body.

The band’s name, “HAYASii,” quickly gained traction, especially with Taniyama Kishou lending his powerful vocals as the lead singer. Fans on social media erupted with excitement, exclaiming, “A real rock singer has arrived!” and “This cast is too luxurious LOL!”
The tweet that sparked some of the excitement can be found here: https://twitter.com/anime_dandadan/status/1953485283883921802
Furthermore, an exorcism scene even received its own lyric video, and the opening phrase “Oharaidaaa!” along with the band members’ names (Yoshikichi, Patterson, Toshirou, Hideshi), resonated deeply with fans, reminding them of their obvious real-world inspirations, becoming a hot topic across social media. You can watch the lyric video here:
As HAYASii’s performance nearly completed the exorcism, something unexpected happened: Jiji cried out, “Don’t erase them!” It turns out that while his body was possessed, Jiji had made a promise to Jashii in his subconscious to “play together.” With tears in his eyes, he pleaded with Hoshiko and everyone else to fulfill this promise.

Moved by Jiji’s heartfelt plea, Hoshiko declared her intention to “make Jashii a part of the family.” Despite Aira’s opposition, Okarun bravely vowed to grow stronger and learn to control Jashii.
Just as a peaceful resolution seemed within reach, rain began to fall, causing Jiji to transform back into Jashii once more, leaving the Ayase house in an even more disastrous state!

Following this, Okarun diligently accompanies Jiji even to the bathroom, making sure to check that the water turns hot when he washes his hands, preventing any accidental transformations. Viewers were deeply moved by this scene, leaving comments such as: “Okarun’s kindness is truly heartwarming,” “Their friendship is growing so strong, it’s thrilling to watch,” and “Even though Jashii is unsettling, it’s touching how this situation is deepening their bond.”
