The TV anime Nippon Sangoku has officially announced a sequel, along with a special video and comments from the original creator. The series, which aired from April 2026, became a major hit, and fans can now look forward to the next chapter.
Based on the manga by Matsuki Ikka, serialized in Shogakukan’s MangaOne app and Ura Sunday website, Nippon Sangoku is set in a near-future Japan where civilization has collapsed after nuclear war, natural disasters, and corrupt governance. The country is divided into three warring factions, and a lowly local official named Sankaku Seiki rises through the ranks with his vast knowledge and sharp rhetoric, aiming to unify Japan.
The TV anime adaptation, directed by Terasawa Kazuaki and produced by Studio Kafka, began airing in April 2026. The cast includes Ono Kensho as Sankaku Seiki, Fukuyama Jun as Asama Yoshinori, Seto Asami as Higashimachi Koki, and Pan Megumi as the narrator, among others. The series was a massive success: the original manga had 1 million copies in print when the anime started streaming, and that number surpassed 2 million in just one month. On Prime Video, the series recorded the No.1 viewership in Japan during its first month (April 2026), and also entered the global Top 10 for Prime Video worldwide, ranking 10th globally and 2nd among non-English titles for the week of May 25-31, and 2nd among non-English titles for June 1-7.
