McDonald’s Japan is bringing two beloved toy lines to its Happy Set menu starting September 11, 2026, for a limited time. The iconic train toy brand Plarail and the adorable character series Sumikko Gurashi will each offer a lineup of nine collectible toys, including one secret item per set.
Plarail Happy Set
The Plarail Happy Set features eight different train-themed toys plus one secret toy, for a total of nine. Models include the 923 Doctor Yellow, D51 200 steam locomotive, E5 Series Shinkansen Hayabusa, and the Narita Express, each with its own unique gimmick. Kids can switch the lever to change direction, apply stickers to match the real design, or observe the internal structure of the vehicles, helping to develop spatial awareness and shape recognition. The toys also encourage imaginative play about where trains are headed and who might be riding them, sparking curiosity about how railways connect cities and communities.
Collecting two or more vehicles allows them to be connected, so children can experiment with different combinations to create their own train formations.
Scanning the QR code on the outer box with a smartphone camera unlocks an AR game where kids can drive the Plarail toy in augmented reality. The scanned toy appears in the AR space, and players can accelerate or decelerate in three stages using a steering wheel. The goal is to stop precisely at stations to pick up passengers, letting kids experience what it’s like to be a train driver.
Sumikko Gurashi Happy Set
The Sumikko Gurashi Happy Set includes eight toys modeled after the characters being held by a claw machine arm, plus one secret toy. Familiar characters like Shirokuma, Tonkatsu, Neko, Suzume, Fukurou, and Tapioca appear as cute bag charms. Fans can attach their favorite character to a bag or accessory, and use the included stickers to decorate them freely.
These toys also encourage imaginative play, letting children move the characters by hand to create stories or enjoy pretend play with friends and family. The set offers a way to express a personal Sumikko Gurashi world.
Limited-Time Bonus
On September 12 and 13 only, while supplies last, purchasing one Plarail Happy Set will come with a bonus “Plarail Special DVD 2026,” and buying one Sumikko Gurashi Happy Set will include a “Sumikko Gurashi Odekake Sticker” set.
