Compressed handkerchiefs featuring characters from the TV anime Ranma 1/2 are now available. The “Ranma 1/2 Gyugyutto! Handkerchief Kuji” went on sale from September 9, 2026, at bookstores, variety shops, and online stores across Japan.
The series is a martial arts romantic comedy by Takahashi Rumiko, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1987 to 1996. The completely new anime, produced by MAPPA under director Uda Kounosuke, aired its first season in October 2024. The main cast includes Yamaguchi Kappei as Saotome Ranma, Hayashibara Megumi as the female Ranma, and Hidaka Noriko as Tendou Akane. The third season is scheduled to begin airing in October 2026.
This new product is a small, compressed handkerchief. After removing the package film, you gently loosen it while wetting it with water, and it expands into a handkerchief measuring approximately 24 × 24 cm. The designs feature familiar characters such as Ranma, Akane, Shampoo, and Ryouga, with a variety of expressions and memorable scenes from the anime rendered in vivid colors. There are six designs in total, including one secret design that remains hidden until the package is opened, adding a lottery-like thrill.
Because the handkerchief changes when exposed to water, it ties directly into the series’ signature transformation theme. With the third season of the TV anime about to begin, this item is sure to draw extra attention.
