Maiko Madoka and Kimono Homura Return to Kyo-mafu

The theatrical film Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten is partnering with three long-established Kyoto businesses for a special merchandise lineup at the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair 2026 (Kyo-mafu 2026). The event takes place on September 19-20, 2026, and will feature products using newly reissued illustrations of Madoka as a maiko and Homura in formal kimono attire.

The movie, a completely new work in the Madoka Magica saga, reunited core staff including Shinbou Akiyuki, Urobuchi Gen, and Ume Aoki. It hit theaters on August 28 as a direct sequel to the 2013 film Rebellion.

Fresh Yatsuhashi from Shogo-in Yatsuhashi Souhonten

To mark the 15th edition of Kyo-mafu, the illustrations from the first and second editions of the event have been revived. The first collaboration product is a set of fresh yatsuhashi from Shogo-in Yatsuhashi Souhonten. Each set includes 10 pieces, original wrapping paper, and a postcard. Available in Madoka Maiko Ver. and Homura Haragi Ver., each design is limited to 500 sets, for a total of 1,000 sets, priced at 1,320 yen (tax incl.) each.

Oil Blotting Paper from Kamiya

Kamiya, a paper processor with over a century of history, brings an oil blotting paper that fuses Kyoto’s traditional gold-leaf paper with the artwork. Also offered in two designs, Madoka Maiko Ver. and Homura Haragi Ver., each with 250 pieces (total 500) at 1,100 yen (tax incl.).

Furoshiki from Miyai

Miyai, a furoshiki maker with more than 120 years of history, contributes a large 90cm wrapping cloth. It can be used for wrapping and carrying, or displayed as wall decor featuring the maiko Madoka and kimono Homura illustrations. Limited to 100 of each design (total 200), priced at 7,700 yen (tax incl.).

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering these designs for the first time, these collaborations offer a unique chance to enjoy Madoka and Homura in Kyoto-style attire.
