TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto will begin its long-awaited third season on October 2, 2026. Ahead of the premiere, a second PV has been released, focusing on Jinshi as he faces his responsibilities as the Imperial Brother. The ending theme has also been set as Eve’s ‘AIYOU,’ and a comment from Eve has arrived.
Second PV Highlights Jinshi’s New Trial
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is a mystery entertainment series based on Natsu Hyuuga’s light novel, published by Imagica Infos under Hero Bunko. The series has surpassed 57 million copies in cumulative circulation worldwide. Set in the rear palace, it follows Maomao, a young poison tester, as she solves various difficult cases. The story has won fans at home and abroad across generations for Maomao’s exhilarating heroine appeal, its full-scale mysteries, and the human drama woven through an exotic worldview.
Season 1 aired from October 2023 to March 2024, and Season 2 aired from January to July 2025. In Season 3, the story moves from the rear palace to the city streets, where new trials await Maomao and Jinshi. On December 11, the first theatrical film in the series, Gekijouban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bouhi no Hihou, will open. It features a completely new story with an original concept by author Hyuuga Natsu.
The second PV captures Jinshi, who has returned to his original status as Imperial Brother, confronting a ‘disaster threatening the country’ and the mystery of a fairy causing rumors in the streets, together with Maomao as they face the problem. To clear the shadow that has begun to fall on the kingdom once more, the stage expands from the rear palace to the city streets and even to a neighboring country.
The video hints at the mysterious fairy’s suspicious smile, glimpses of the ‘disaster threatening the country,’ and the duties Jinshi must face because of his royal lineage. The current Emperor’s line, ‘I think it is about time I had Yue choose a flower,’ and Jinshi’s whisper, marked by resolve and sorrow, close the footage. What exactly is the ‘disaster threatening the country’? Who is the mysterious fairy? And what new mission has been assigned to Imperial Brother Jinshi, and how will his relationship with Maomao change? Expectations are high for the latest season.
Eve’s ‘AIYOU’ Confirmed as Ending Theme
Singer-songwriter Eve, who has earned tremendous support in Japan and overseas for highly addictive melodies and a unique worldview, will provide the ending theme, ‘AIYOU.’ The song, which accompanies Jinshi’s feelings as he is newly given duties as Imperial Brother, is described as gentle while carrying a sense of sorrow. It was unveiled for the first time.

People’s hearts cannot be solved the way puzzles can, and there are times when wordless emotions create a distance as vast as the universe between two people who are right beside each other. While thinking about that mystery of the heart, the song ‘AIYOU’ was born.
I also put into it the feeling of wanting to see you not as your role or position, but as yourself—the longing of looking at a distant star, the loneliness, and yet the heart being drawn in, a feeling that cannot be neatly explained by logic.
I would be happy if, after watching the main story, it becomes a time for listeners to quietly strain their ears.
Mini Anime ‘Maomao no Hitorigoto’ Returns for Season 3
It has also been revealed that the mini anime Maomao no Hitorigoto, which was well received in Seasons 1 and 2, will be implemented for Season 3 as well. In the mini anime, Maomao and others explain key items that appeared in the main anime. It offers knowledge that makes the work even more enjoyable after watching, while looking back on the main story.
Season 3 mini characters for Maomao, Jinshi, Bashan, Rahan, Rikuson, and Chouu were also revealed. With new outfits, they will further liven up Kusuriya no Hitorigoto. Maomao no Hitorigoto will stream every Monday at 12:00 on the TOHO animation official YouTube channel, so it can be enjoyed together with the main series.

TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Season 3 will broadcast nationwide simultaneously on Nippon TV network’s 30-station ‘FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT’ from October 2, 2026, every Friday at 11:00 PM.
