The non-credit opening sequence for Season 3 of the TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has been released, featuring Yorushika’s opening theme “Kumo o Nuke Kafu e Watashi Dake.” The footage is layered with hints that appear to foreshadow the journey taken by Maomao and Jinshi.
A Series That Keeps Building Momentum
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is a palace mystery entertainment series set in the rear palace, following Maomao, a young “poison tester” who solves a string of difficult cases. The series has surpassed 45 million copies in cumulative circulation. The TV anime aired its first season from October 2023 to March 2024, and a second season from January to July 2025, and it has consistently ranked near the top of streaming platforms. With Season 3 set to begin on October 2 and the franchise’s long-awaited first theatrical film, Gekijouban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bouhi no Hihou, arriving on December 11, excitement around the title continues to grow.
Inside the Opening Video
Season 3 opens a new chapter of incidents and mystery-solving. The opening theme, “Kumo o Nuke Kafu e Watashi Dake,” pairs literary lyrics with a guitar-driven sound and a voice notable for its clarity. Carried by the song’s expansive, wind-swept feel, the visuals are scattered with clues that hint at the path Maomao and Jinshi will travel.
Directing the footage is animation artist Nakata Ayuka, who also handled the Season 2 opening theme, “Hyakka Ryouran.” Continuing from Season 2, her meticulous visual expression, where not a single moment should be missed, marks the opening of the new story.
Yuki Aoi on Seeing the Footage Early
Yuki Aoi, who voices Maomao, got an early look at the video during an advance screening held on September 27. “Once again it is packed with expressions that make you think, ‘so there is a way of looking at it like that,’ and the content gives a sense of what is coming next — my heart felt very full,” she commented.
Broadcast and Film Plans
Season 3 will air nationwide on the NTV network’s 30-station “FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT” block every Friday at 11 p.m., starting October 2. The first cour is scheduled to air from October 2026 and the second cour from April 2027. On December 11, the series’ first theatrical film, Gekijouban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bouhi no Hihou, will also open.
