Ohtaka Shinobu to Launch Geek Crown Manga on Magazine Pocket

New series set for Magazine Pocket

The official X account for Magazine Pocket announced on Tuesday that Ohtaka Shinobu will begin serializing a new manga, Geek Crown (Geek and Crown), on the platform on October 27. The series is described as a military fantasy in which the protagonist must expose a traitorous officer hiding within a royal succession war.

Magi and its award-winning run

Ohtaka is best known for the fantasy adventure manga Magi, which ran in Shounen Sunday from June 2009 to October 2017. Shogakukan published the 37th and final volume in November 2017. Magi won the 59th Shogakukan Manga Awards in the Shounen category in 2013.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in February 2013 and released the 37th and final volume in August 2019.

Sinbad no Bouken and Orient

Ohtaka also serialized the prequel Magi: Sinbad no Bouken from May 2013 to April 2018. Shogakukan Asia published the manga in English in Southeast Asia and released the fourth volume in March 2016.

Ohtaka began Orient in Weekly Shounen Magazine in May 2018 before transferring it to Bessatsu Shounen Magazine, concluding it in October 2024.

Anime adaptations

A-1 Pictures adapted Magi into two television anime seasons: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic in Fall 2012 and Magi: The Kingdom of Magic in Fall 2013, each running for 25 episodes. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series and simulcast both seasons with subtitles and an English dub.

The prequel, Magi: Sinbad no Bouken, received an OVA series in 2014-2015 and a 13-episode television anime in Spring 2016.

Orient was adapted into a television anime by A.C.G.T. that aired in split cours in Winter 2022 and Summer 2022.
