About the WANDANCE Anime
WANDANCE is a TV anime adaptation of Kouhii’s manga, which explores the exciting world of “street dance x romance.” Serialized in Koudansha’s monthly comic magazine “Afternoon,” the manga has already surpassed 1.1 million copies in circulation. The story follows the journey of Kotani Kaboku, affectionately known as Kabo, a high school student who struggles with stuttering and finds it difficult to express his true feelings. However, through his classmate Wanda Hikari, nicknamed Wanda, who fearlessly pursues her own expression without concern for others, Kabo becomes deeply drawn into dance. The anime beautifully portrays his youthful challenge to master “freestyle” dance, a form of expression that transcends words.

Katou Michiya takes on the roles of director, scriptwriter, and VFX supervisor for this exciting project. The animation is a collaborative effort between the veteran major animation studio MADHOUSE and Cyclone Graphics, a studio renowned for its expertise in digital animation. The production team is taking an unprecedentedly authentic approach to a street dance anime, with global dancers participating in motion capture filming, spearheaded by dance producer RIEHATA. Since its broadcast began on October 8th, the series has quickly garnered significant attention and discussion.
