About the Enduring Classic, Ranma 1/2
*Ranma 1/2* is a classic martial arts romantic comedy manga that continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of humor, action, and heartfelt moments. Written by the legendary Takahashi Rumiko, known for other iconic works like *Urusei Yatsura*, *Maison Ikkoku*, *InuYasha*, *Kyoukai no RINNE*, and *MAO*, it was serialized in “Weekly Shounen Sunday” from Issue 36 of 1987 to Issue 12 of 1996. The story follows Saotome Ranma, a martial artist cursed with a peculiar condition: douse him with cold water, and he transforms into a girl; a splash of hot water, and he returns to his male form. Alongside his spirited fiancée, Tendou Akane, the third daughter of the Tendou Dojo, and a colorful cast of eccentric characters, Ranma navigates a daily life filled with laughter, tears, and a touch of budding romance.
The completely new anime adaptation, meticulously brought to life by animation studio MAPPA under the direction of Uda Kounosuke, aired its first season from October to December 2024. Now, the second season has triumphantly begun in October 2025, generating immense buzz. A major highlight is the return of the original main cast, including Yamaguchi Kappei as Saotome Ranma (male form), Hayashibara Megumi as Ranma (female form), and Hidaka Noriko as Tendou Akane, much to the delight of long-time fans.
