12 Consecutive Weeks of Gekijouban “Pokemon” Free Broadcast Decided: Every Saturday and Sunday Starting May 17 (Saturday)

Get ready, Pocket Monster fans! ABEMA is hosting a special 12-week event on its Anime “Pocket Monster” Channel, offering free broadcasts of the Gekijouban Pocket Monster (Pokemon movies) every Saturday and Sunday, starting from May 17th.

Pocket Monster, or Pokemon as it’s commonly known, is an incredibly popular anime series that first hit the airwaves on April 1st, 1997. The story takes place in a vibrant world filled with mysterious creatures called Pocket Monster (or Pokemon for short). For about 26 years, until March 2023, the series followed the adventures of a young boy named Satoshi, who aspired to become a “Pokemon Master,” and his loyal partner Pikachu. They journeyed the world, meeting various Pokemon and making many companions along the way. Since April 2023, a new series has been airing, featuring new protagonists, a girl named Riko and a boy named Roy. Beyond the TV series, numerous Gekijouban Pocket Monster films have been produced, solidifying its status as a beloved national anime for many years.

The newly announced 12-week free broadcast event for Gekijouban Pocket Monster is titled “Abema de Shuuumatsu Pokemon Eiga,” which can be translated as “Weekend Pokemon Movies on Abema.” This exciting event will sequentially broadcast Gekijouban Pocket Monster films for free every Saturday and Sunday, kicking off on May 17th.

The first weekend, May 17th (Saturday) and 18th (Sunday), will feature a simultaneous broadcast of two films that were originally released together: Gekijouban Pocket Monster Best Wishes Victini to Kuroki Eiyuu Zekrom and Gekijouban Pocket Monster Best Wishes Victini to Shiroki Eiyuu Reshiram. These will air on Anime “Pocket Monster” Channel 1 and 2 simultaneously. Later, on July 5th (Saturday) and 6th (Sunday), leading up to the Tanabata festival on July 7th, you can catch Gekijouban Pocket Monster Advanced Generation Nanayo no Negai Boshi Jirachi, which stars Jirachi, a mythical Pokemon said to grant wishes. Additionally, there will be a free broadcast of Gekijouban Pocket Monster Mizu no Miyako no Mamorigami Latias to Latios to commemorate its theatrical release date of July 13th back in 2002. What’s more, all broadcasted films will be available for free streaming for one week after their initial airing!

It’s also worth noting that the Anime “Pocket Monster” Channel is already providing daily free broadcasts of all 8 past TV anime series, including the latest one currently airing on terrestrial TV, plus all 23 (24 works) of the Gekijouban Pocket Monster films for a full year.

*Note: Gekijouban Pocket Monster the 14th film, Gekijouban Pocket Monster Best Wishes Victini to Kuroki Eiyuu Zekrom and Gekijouban Pocket Monster Best Wishes Victini to Shiroki Eiyuu Reshiram, were released together, which is why the total is sometimes noted as 23 films (24 works).
