Get ready, Sumikko Gurashi fans! The highly anticipated fourth movie in the ‘Eiga Sumikko Gurashi’ series has officially been titled ‘Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Sora no Oukoku to Futari no Ko’ (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: The Sky Kingdom and the Two Kids) and is set to premiere on October 31, 2025. Alongside this exciting announcement, we’ve also received the very first look with a charming teaser visual and a heartwarming teaser trailer! Comments from the voice narrators, Inohara Yoshihiko and Honjoo Manami, as well as Director Iwata Naomi and scriptwriter Kakuta Takashi (Europe Kikaku), have also been released.
About Sumikko Gurashi and the Hit Movie Series
“Don’t you ever feel a sense of calm when you’re in a corner?” Sumikko Gurashi resonates with this relatable feeling. With this catchy phrase, the series features slightly negative but uniquely individual characters such as the cold-sensitive Shirokuma (polar bear), Pengin? (a penguin unsure of themselves), Tonkatsu (a leftover piece of pork cutlet), Neko (a shy cat), and Tokage (a dinosaur hiding their true identity). Their endearing personalities have won the hearts of both children and adults alike.
The theatrical anime series began in 2019 with the first film, ‘Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko’ (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: The Unexpected Picture Book and the Secret Child). Since then, the films have grown into a “dai hitto” (big hit) movie series, with the first three installments having attracted over 3 million viewers collectively by the time the third movie was released in 2023.
A New Adventure in the Sky Kingdom
The newly announced film, ‘Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Sora no Oukoku to Futari no Ko’, brings a fresh perspective with Iwata Naomi (‘Pingu in the City’) taking the helm as the director, introducing the Sumikko to new companions. The script is penned once again by Kakuta Takashi (Europe Kikaku), who also wrote the screenplays for the first and third movies in the series. The story begins one rainy day when Ouji (meaning “Prince”) arrives in the Sumikko’s town, setting the stage for a new adventure high above in a kingdom in the sky.
First Look at the Teaser Visual and New Characters
The unveiled teaser visual captures the Sumikko looking up at the sky amidst the rain. Peeking out from the clouds above is the new character, Ouji. If you look closely at the light breaking through the clouds, you can also faintly see the silhouette of yet another new character. Tonkatsu and Ebifurai no Shippo, the fried food duo, are notably sharing an umbrella to stay dry, and they seem to be the first to spot Ouji and their mysterious companion.

The teaser trailer kicks off with the narration “Adventure falls from the sky!?” as the new character Ouji bumps through clouds on his descent. The Sumikko lend a helping hand to Ouji, and he guides them onto a cloud, leading them to a magnificent kingdom in the sky.
Joining forces with the hardworking Ouji, the Sumikko find themselves tasked with saving the kingdom from a pinch. Shirokuma, Pengin?, Tonkatsu, Neko, Tokage, and the minikko-tachi (small characters) are all showcased sporting their brand new “adventure outfits” for the journey. The mysterious new character “???” also makes an intriguing appearance. With Tonkatsu and Ebifurai no Shippo looking absolutely pumped up, anticipation is high for this series’ most “ageage” (high-spirited) story yet!

I’m really looking forward to seeing how the relationships within the usual Sumikko community change when new kids join them. Will we see new sides to them? Or will things stay exactly the same as before? That’s what I’m excited about. Since it’s a Sumikko story, I’m also imagining if the new characters might carry some kind of complex, perhaps? And this time, they’re coming from the sky, so I’m hoping they’ll bring something new to the story!

The setting for this story is a kingdom in the sky. A kingdom in the sky! Doesn’t it just make you excited to imagine what the castle looks like, or how the people in the kingdom live?
