Which Manga Do You Want to See Animated? 3rd Place: 『Toukyou ALIENS』, 2nd: 『Youchien WARS』, 1st is… [Unfinished Works Edition]

In Japan, countless anime are produced every year, and the existence of manga is what supports this abundant lineup.

In 2025, anime based on manga such as 『Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan』, 『Witch Watch』, and 『Ninja to Koroshiya no Futarigurashi』 are being broadcast one after another, and visualizations of a diverse range of titles are on the horizon.

Therefore, Anime! Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Which Manga Do You Want to See Animated? (First Half of 2025)”, following up on the survey from the second half of 2024. Targeting works that have not yet been animated or have no animation announced, we divided the survey into two categories: ongoing works that are still being serialized (Unfinished Works category) and completed works that have already concluded (Completed Works category). We received 360 responses during the survey period from June 6th to June 15th.

Regarding gender distribution, approximately 30 percent were male and about 70 percent were female, with females being the majority. For age groups, those 19 and under accounted for about 35 percent, while those in their 20s and 30s were each about 25 percent. This article presents the results for the Unfinished Works category.

■ Fantasy, Action, SF – A diverse range of popular works gathered!

1st Place

Taking the top spot is 『Koishita Hito wa, Imouto no Kawari ni Shinde Kure to Itta. ―Imouto to Kekkon Shita Kataomoi Aite ga Naze Ima sara Watashi no Moto ni? to Omottara―@COMIC』, garnering approximately 17 percent of the votes.

This work is a romantic fantasy featuring a former noblewoman who becomes the guardian of a toxic otherworldly realm. It’s also a popular novel adaptation, with readers commenting: “It starts with the shocking premise of the person she loves asking her to die in place of his sister to go to the otherworld, and there she forms a master-disciple relationship with someone she wasn’t meant to cross paths with. I want to experience the cruelly beautiful story of these two who had such a fated encounter in anime.” and “The clumsy master and disciple in love, whose heartbreaking misunderstandings intertwine, are so endearing. It’s also packed with otherworldly elements that color the story, like battles with monsters and a chatty holy sword.” The dramatic depth that weaves together fantasy and romance was highly praised.

Many votes also came from fans eager to see the work adapted into anime, saying, “The drama CD released in 2024 was also wonderful, so I hope it gets an anime adaptation while the momentum is high.”

2nd Place

Coming in second place is 『Youchien WARS』, with approximately 4 percent support.

This work is a violent romantic comedy about Rita, a legendary former assassin, who struggles as a teacher and bodyguard at a kindergarten attended by the children of global powerhouses. Comments included: “The gag, romance, and action are all top-notch! You think it’s a lighthearted comedy, but there’s also a serious side with hidden brutal pasts for the characters… It’s definitely a work I want to see animated!” and “Despite the cute art style, the combat scenes are serious. The gun action would be incredibly impressive in an anime.” Readers were clearly captivated by the contrasting story and visuals.

3rd Place

In third place is 『Toukyou ALIENS』, just a few votes shy of second place.

This is an SF action story where a high school student living an ordinary life becomes a member of the alien management organization “AMO” and confronts extraterrestrial life forms. Readers commented: “The art is incredibly beautiful, and the story is a constant series of surprises. I can’t wait to see how the many mysteries are resolved.” and “Various aliens are hiding on Earth, and they aren’t always enemies; the setting is intricate, making theories fun. The characters and battle scenes feel realistic, so seeing them in color and motion would deepen the understanding of the work.” Expectations for an anime adaptation are high.

■ Other Comments!

For 『Himaten!』, one reader said, “It’s a romantic comedy where the heroine, a high school girl president, transfers to the high school of the protagonist who works a part-time job doing housework. The commemorative PV for the third volume was fast-paced and perfectly captured the charm of the work.”

For 『Nukozuke!』, a comment read: “It’s a heartwarming slice-of-life story about humans and nukos, a species of cat that has evolved closer to humans, and it’s so healing. The nukos who can speak human language aren’t just cute; the occasional serious episodes also stay in your heart, making it a work you want to reread many times.”

For 『Ibitte Konai Gibo to Gishi』, someone commented: “The twist is funny because the stepmother and stepsister, typically mean in fairy tales, are instead kind; it’s a heartwarming comedy where no bad people appear. I was also drawn in by the presence of Kujira-san, who played Mommy in the PV.”

For 『Uklair!』, a reader shared: “It’s a youth story about a girl who struggles with expressing emotions joining the ukulele club to make many people smile. Watching her interact with various people through club activities is heartwarming. While there are many works about girls playing instruments, the instrument being the ukulele is also refreshing.” Votes were cast for a wide variety of titles across genres.

In this survey, many titles with unique settings and worldviews ranked high. There was a strong desire for anime adaptations of diverse titles, including fantasy, comedy, and SF.
