Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san, also known by its English title Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, is a delightful series adapted from the light novel written by Sun Sun Sun. The animation production for the series is handled by the studio Doga Kobo, known for their work on various beloved titles.

The Original Story

The journey of Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san began as a web novel penned by Sun Sun Sun. It first appeared on the Syousetsuka ni Narou website back in May 2020. Later, Kadokawa picked it up for print publication under their Sneaker Bunko imprint, with lovely illustrations provided by Momoco. The first physical volume was released in February 2021, and the series has continued to grow, with the 10th volume hitting shelves recently on July 1st.

This popular story also has a manga adaptation, which started serialization on the Magazine pocket app in October 2022. The manga is drawn by Tanamachi Saho. As of June 9th, Kodansha has published the seventh volume of the manga adaptation.

English Releases

Good news for international readers! Yen Press has licensed both the light novel and the manga series for English release. They acquired the light novel license in April 2022 and the manga license more recently in December 2024.

The English version of the manga adaptation kicked off digitally through Kodansha USA‘s K Manga service and saw its first print volume go on sale on June 24th. The second manga volume is expected to be released on September 23rd. Meanwhile, the English light novel release is progressing well, with the seventh volume having been released on May 13th, and the eighth volume scheduled for a November 11th release.
