Fans of Gintama, prepare yourselves! The long-awaited new film, Shingekijouban Gintama -Yoshiwara Taienjou-, is officially set to hit theaters in 2026. This monumental announcement, the grand finale of the “Gintama 20th Anniversary Project,” promises to bring one of the manga’s most beloved and pivotal storylines, the “Yoshiwara Enjou-hen” (Yoshiwara in Flames Arc), to life as a spectacular entertainment masterpiece. For the very first time in the series, this iconic arc will be presented in a cinematic widescreen, CinemaScope format, offering an unprecedented visual experience. Along with the announcement, a special teaser video and a newly drawn teaser visual by original author Sorachi Hideaki were unveiled, and a comment from Sorachi also arrived.
This exciting news was first revealed at the “Gintama Multiverse Matsuri,” the largest event of the “Gintama 20th Anniversary Project,” held on August 16, 2025. This massive gathering drew passionate Gintama fans from across Japan, not only to the main venue in Tokyo but also to live viewings in cinemas nationwide.
Sugita Tomokazu, Sakaguchi Daisuke, Kugimiya Rie, and other beloved voice actors familiar to anime Gintama fans assembled. Amidst the abundant content, including the latest information for the new TV anime 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei, set to broadcast from October 6 on TV Tokyo and other networks, the grand announcement for the last part of the “Gintama 20th Anniversary Project” was made at the event’s conclusion.
Shingekijouban Gintama -Yoshiwara Taienjou- will plunge viewers into the depths of Yoshiwara, an underground entertainment district shrouded in darkness and ruled by the formidable “Yoru Ou” Housen. It is into this lightless city that the Yorozuya trio—Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi, and Kagura—will step. The special teaser video for the film opens with Gintoki’s powerful line, “You can’t extinguish my fire. You can’t extinguish our fire,” setting the stage for the intense drama to come. The video features not only the core Yorozuya members but also other key characters from the “Yoshiwara Enjou-hen,” such as Tsukuyo, Seita, Hinowa, Kamui, and Housen.
But the surprises don’t stop there! The teaser also offers glimpses of characters who didn’t appear in this particular arc in the original manga, including the Joui Shishi and Gintoki’s former companion, Katsura. Even members of the Shinsengumi—Kondou Isao, Hijikata Toushirou, Okita Sougo, and Yamazaki Sagaru—can be spotted, hinting at an expanded, thrilling narrative unique to the film. The video culminates with Gintoki rising from amidst a terrifying inferno, promising explosive battles, clashing souls, and a new layer of drama unfolding on a truly cinematic scale.
Get ready to experience one of Gintama‘s most passionate and action-packed episodes, brought to life with incredibly dynamic and evolved visuals on the big screen.
Alongside the announcement, a brand-new teaser visual, specially drawn by original author Sorachi Hideaki, was also revealed. The striking image captures Gintoki’s profile amidst a shower of sparks, a subtle smile playing on his lips. This powerful visual masterfully blends serenity with intense resolve, perfectly conveying Gintoki’s burning fighting spirit. Sorachi Hideaki also shared a heartfelt message for the many fans who have supported Gintama, delivered at the close of the “Gintama Multiverse Matsuri” on August 16.

Sorachi Hideaki
Thanks to all of your support, Ginpachi-sensei is getting an anime, and another movie is being produced. Thank you very much.
To see a work that ended its serialization six years ago still being used by dirty adults as a tool to earn pocket money, sucked dry until there’s no flavor left, well, it gives me a sense of satisfaction as an author, as I gaze at my bankbook.
Gintama is a rare and fortunate work where everything—anime, novels, movies, live-action—somehow succeeded… or rather, made it *look* like it succeeded, just barely managing to pull off a lucky escape. But if things keep going like this, we won’t be able to stop until we crash and burn somewhere. So, I feel that perhaps a glorious explosion and end due to issues like Sugita Tomokazu-san’s lower body situation might be considered a victory for Gintama in its own way.
Everyone, for both Ginpachi-sensei and the movie, please look forward to Sugita Tomokazu’s future endeavors.
From the dirtiest mastermind,
