Haikyuu!!, the monumental sports manga by Furudate Haruichi, has captivated audiences with its thrilling depiction of high school students’ passionate journey in volleyball. Serialized in Shueisha’s “Weekly Shonen Jump” for eight and a half years, from February 2012, the manga has sold over 70 million copies in total. The television anime series, based on this beloved manga, premiered in 2014, with four seasons produced and broadcast until December 2020. It has enthralled and moved not only manga readers but also anime fans both in Japan and across the globe.
The recently released Gekijouban Haikyuu!! Gomisuteba no Kessen (also known as Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle), which hit theaters in February 2024, vividly portrayed the fierce rivalry and emotional drama between Karasuno High School and their fated opponents, Nekoma High School. This film became a massive box office success, grossing over 20 billion yen worldwide. It also earned the Excellent Animation Film Award at the Japan Academy Film Prize, solidifying its reputation as one of the most dynamic and trending sports anime today.
