The “Adachi Mitsuru Exhibition – Commemorating 55 Years of Artistic Work” has opened its doors at the Sunshine City Exhibition Hall C in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, starting December 19th, 2025. This exhibition celebrates the 55-year career of the popular manga artist Adachi Mitsuru, who has given the world many masterpieces like Miyuki, Touch, Rough, and H2.
The exhibition brings together his iconic works that have captivated fans over the decades, from his early series Nine to Hiatari Ryokou! (which can be translated as Sunshine Good!), Miyuki, Touch, Rough, H2, Cross Game, and MIX. Alongside a dynamic display featuring precious original artwork, theater screenings, and photo spots that let you feel the worlds of his stories, visitors can look back on his impressive body of work.
A press preview was held on the 18th, the day before the public opening. Let’s dive into a report on the rich content of this exhibition.
Relive the “Youth” of Adachi Mitsuru’s Works! Packed with Precious Exhibits
Upon entering the venue, you’re greeted by a comprehensive timeline of Adachi Mitsuru-sensei’s career. The exhibition is structured to look back at eight core series following this timeline: Nine, Hiatari Ryokou!, Miyuki, Touch, Rough, H2, Cross Game, and MIX.
Before viewing the exhibits, an opening theater presentation plays on an oversized screen over 6 meters wide. After watching, you can proceed beyond the screen to where the main exhibition begins.
Not only are famous scenes from the manga displayed, but there are also exhibits of production secrets from Adachi-sensei and valuable reference materials, making it a truly substantial viewing experience.
In the Miyuki zone, since the story depicts a love triangle between the protagonist Wakamatsu Masato and the two heroines named Miyuki, there’s a corner where you can take a “compatibility test” to see which “Miyuki” you would choose. I was a Kashima Miyuki fan, but according to the chart, I’m supposedly more compatible with Wakamatsu Miyuki!? You might discover a surprising fact decades in the making, so be sure to give it a try when you visit.
The Touch zone features a recreation of the study room built in the yard. It even includes the doghouse for the beloved pet Punch, serving as a fun photo spot.
There was a scene that used eight panels on one page to show characters coming and going from that study room. I had no idea it was all hand-drawn, not a copy! It’s a fresh reminder of the incredible detail and care Adachi-sensei puts into his manga.
Furthermore, in the Rough zone, since it’s a work centered on swimming, the floor of the exhibition space uses lights to recreate the surface of a pool. This atmosphere creates an immersive space where you can feel absorbed into the world of the story.
Additionally, Adachi-sensei’s work desk has been recreated. It’s decorated with ink, a hairdryer, an ashtray, a smartphone, and even a plush of “Tsubakuro,” the mascot for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows—a team Adachi-sensei is a public fan of. It lets you soak in the feeling that “this is where sensei created all those masterpieces…”
And undoubtedly the biggest highlight is the display of over 40 pieces of original artwork. This includes some originals being shown to the public for the first time at this exhibition, and I couldn’t contain my amazement.
Past displays of congratulatory messages from fellow manga artists he’s associated with, like Detective Conan‘s Aoyama Goushou-sensei and Katteni Kaizou‘s Kumeta Kouji-sensei, you’ll find the goods shop. The lineup is broad, featuring items like a fluffy, soft pouch modeled after Punch, sticker sets designed with motifs from each series, and acrylic stands with 3D pedestals. Why not pick up a souvenir of your visit?
They are also offering an audio guide content service, with voice actress Hidaka Noriko as the narrator, to help you enjoy the exhibition on an even deeper level. Across 10 tracks, you can listen to Hidaka’s gentle narration explore new charms of the works.
You could say this exhibition lets you feel the essence of Adachi Mitsuru, a master of “youth manga,” with your entire being. It offers a “reliving of youth” experience like no other, so fans of Adachi’s work should definitely make the trip.
