Leadership at the Helm
Guiding this project is director Andou Naoya, whose credits include Paradox Live the Animation. He’s not alone—Fujita Youichi, the director behind the original Gintama TV series, is on board as supervisor. The script is penned by Kishimoto Taku of Ousama Ranking fame, while the iconic character designs are in the trusted hands of Takeuchi Shinji, a Gintama veteran serving as character designer and chief animation director. Production is being handled by Bandai Namco Pictures.
A Quick Look at Gintama’s Legacy
This new film adapts the legendary manga by Sorachi Hideaki. The series carved its place in history, serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 2003 to 2018, with a final run in Jump Giga and a dedicated app. For English-speaking audiences, VIZ Media licensed the manga, releasing numerous volumes starting in 2007.
The anime legacy is just as impressive, beginning with a TV series by Sunrise in 2006. It spawned multiple seasons, OVAs, and movies, culminating in the supposed finale, Gintama: The Final, in 2021. But as any true fan knows, with Gintama, the end is never really the end!
