After defeating the villain Jackal and saving Bat’s village in episode 10, Kenshiro’s journey continues. Meanwhile, in another part of the wasteland, a group of bandits tries to attack a handsome man—only to find themselves facing a deadly warrior.
That man is Rei, who made a brief appearance at the end of episode 10 and now makes his full debut in episode 11, titled “The Man of Nanto,” which aired on June 5. Voiced by Nakamura Yuuichi, Rei’s entrance has generated significant buzz among fans.
In this article, we recap the events of episode 11 and highlight viewer reactions from X (formerly Twitter) that capture the excitement surrounding Rei and other beloved characters.
※ Spoilers ahead for those who have not yet watched the episode.

Rei, Mamiya, and the Kiba Clan
Rei is a man who lures bandits by disguising himself as a woman, then takes their food supplies. When the bandits try to overwhelm him with numbers, they quickly realize their mistake. Rei unleashes the Nanto Suichōken (Nanto Water Bird Fist), a graceful yet devastating technique that slices through enemies like a wire cutter. His distinctive cry of “Shao!” has already become a fan favorite.
Viewers who were thrilled by Nakamura Yuuichi’s rare female voice soon joined in chanting “Shao!” as the bandits, in a humorous twist, provide an impromptu exposition about the Nanto Suichōken. Fans responded with comments like “Why are you explaining?” and “Since when are random bandits so knowledgeable?”
Rei’s motives become clearer: he is searching for a man with seven scars on his chest. “Until I find him and kill him, I’ll survive even if I have to drink mud,” he declares, hinting at a forthcoming conflict with Kenshiro.

Kenshiro Returns to a New Mission
Back at the bar, Kenshiro reunites with Bat and Lynn. The children from Bat’s village have found a new safe haven, but the village is threatened by bandits, so they need a bodyguard. The bar owner, whom Kenshiro earlier strong-armed into caring for the children, is relieved to see him—fans recalled the blackmail joke with amusement.
Kenshiro, Bat, and Lynn then visit the hopeful village. It is a self-sufficient community led by a woman whose appearance startles Kenshiro: she looks exactly like his lost love, Yuria. Yuria died by suicide after being captured by Shin, so this resemblance is shocking.

Mamiya Takes the Stage
The woman is Mamiya, another iconic character finally appearing in the new adaptation. Fans immediately recognized her and cheered. When she pulls out a yo-yo as her weapon, the internet erupted with references to the classic manga and drama series “Sukeban Deka,” which was airing around the same time as the original Fist of the North Star anime in the 1980s. Comments like “Sukeban Deka!” and “You won’t get away with this!” flooded social media.

Three Heroes, One Village
It turns out Rei has also been hired as a bodyguard for the village. Kenshiro, Rei, and Mamiya must work together to defend it. However, Lynn is suspicious of Rei’s sharp eyes, warning Kenshiro, “Ken, no! That man’s eyes aren’t the eyes of someone who helps others!” Fans who know the original story noted that Rei gets a harsh first impression, and commented sympathetically.
The scene shifts to the Kiba Clan, a notorious bandit group, targeting the village. When Lynn and Mamiya take a bath together, fans enjoyed the fanservice moment.

Rei’s Betrayal and a Fateful Encounter
The Kiba Clan attacks, and Kenshiro easily handles them. Rei arrives, and it is revealed that he was originally hired by the Kiba Clan to attack the village from within, but he seems to have switched sides after being captivated by Mamiya. When Kenshiro witnesses Rei’s Nanto Suichōken, he recognizes it as Nanto style, and the two men realize they are a Hokuto and a Nanto user. Rei is still searching for the man with seven scars—who is standing right in front of him. The tension builds for a confrontation.
Then tragedy strikes. A villager named Kou is captured and killed by the Kiba Clan. Mamiya had to choose between saving Kou and protecting the entire village, and she made the cold, rational decision to sacrifice him. The villagers reveal that Kou was Mamiya’s only brother. This emotional backstory moves Rei, whose cold heart begins to thaw.
Viewers were touched, with comments like “I cried” and “Mamiya has already lost her parents; losing her brother too is too painful.” Rei’s character development is just beginning.
Fans also praised Nakamura Yuuichi’s performance, noting that his Rei brings a different coolness compared to the late Shiogawa Shigeru’s portrayal in the original. The next episode airs on June 12 at 25:00.
