“Kusuriya” and “Re Zero” Authors Write New Original Works! WEB/TV Linked Short Anime “Ranobe Anime” Launches

An announcement has been made regarding the launch of the “Ranobe Anime” project, which will develop web and TV-linked short anime based on new original works written by popular authors and original character designs by popular illustrators. Authors participating include Hinata Natsu, known for “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto”, and Nagatsuki Tappei, known for “Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu”. Advance public release of two works has started today on YouTube.

“Ranime,” or “Ranobe Anime,” is a short anime project presented by talented light novel authors and popular illustrators working together. Aiming to create “never-before-seen stories,” these are designed to be as easily enjoyable as a light novel (ranobe) with each episode being just 5 minutes long, yet capable of drawing viewers in quickly.

Four works have been announced this time. Unique key visuals reflecting the world of each work, and PVs filled with visuals that color the world of each work, have also been unveiled. Comments from the original authors and illustrators for each work have also been shared.

Kanshin Time Leap

“Kanshin Time Leap” is a new work by Ninigoto Juu, known for “Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru.”, an author who has captivated readers with intricate tricks and substantial stories. It unfolds as a sweet and bitter “mystery of love,” where a high school girl repeats time leaps to change the future and achieve mutual love with the person who once rejected her.

Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku

“Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku” is a new work by Hinata Natsu, known for “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto”, and tells the story of a chubby protagonist’s struggle to diet. The protagonist decides to say goodbye to fat in order to become a femme fatale (a seductive woman who brings ruin to men) and get revenge on the man who hurt her precious cousin. Hinata-sensei, skilled in character portrayal, vividly depicts the high school student’s diet life filled with laughter, sweat, and sometimes tears(!?).

Jack the Reaper

“Jack the Reaper” features a new story by Nagatsuki Tappei, known for “Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu”, set in modern Japan and based on the theme of a “death loop”. Various confrontations between a detective who has lost his memory and a murderer are depicted with full tension. When the truth of the incident is revealed, viewers are sure to be surprised by the deep human drama, typical of Nagatsuki-sensei.

Marie Antoinette ni Tensei shitanode Zenryoku de Guillotine o Kaihi shimasu

“Marie Antoinette ni Tensei shitanode Zenryoku de Guillotine o Kaihi shimasu” was written by Amano Shouko, known for “Yorozu Uranai Dokoro Onmyouya e Youkoso”. A modern high school girl who reincarnates as Marie Antoinette starts a project to train the first ever idol group in the royal palace, using her otaku knowledge and passion as weapons to avoid the future where she is executed. The story is filled with elements from both the other world (isekaii) and the modern world, finished as a story everyone can enjoy. Furthermore, the number of works is planned to expand sequentially.

Such “Ranobe Anime” works will have an advance public release of two titles, “Kanshin Time Leap” and “Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku,” for 10 consecutive days starting today on the official YouTube channel. They will also be available on short drama platforms like BUMP and Tatedora.

And starting from July 12, 2025, at 26:00 (effectively July 13, 2:00 AM JST), the four works re-edited into a horizontal screen format for television will be broadcast as “Shuukan Ranobe Anime” within the “ANiMAZiNG!!!” block on ABC TV and TV Asahi affiliated networks nationwide (24 stations). Pay close attention to these completely original new ranobe anime works, penned by a great gathering of popular authors and illustrators.

Kanshin Time Leap: Original Work, Series Composition, Script: Ninigoto Juu (“Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru.”, MF Bunko J)

I am Ninigoto Juu, in charge of the original work and script. As the title “Kanshin Time Leap” suggests, this story is about a girl who, after losing in love, happens to go back to the past and try confessing again. I hope you will watch and focus on things like why she was rejected despite thinking she had a sure win (?), and whether her love will be fulfilled after repeating time leaps. …Also, keeping that official comment aside, those with a particular taste for girls who are unfortunate enough to be rejected being pitifully cute are also very welcome to enjoy.

Kanshin Time Leap: Character Design: tanu

I am illustrator tanu, and I was in charge of the original character designs. When I read the script for the protagonist, I got the impression of someone cute, cheerful, and earnest through her lines. Since the work’s theme is time leap, I aimed for a design that incorporates slightly mysterious elements while being relatable and easy for viewers to root for. I was in charge of designing four characters, including the protagonist, and in the anime itself, everyone is expressive, cute & cool, and most importantly, it’s a work that makes you want to see the continuation quickly. Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku: Original Work, Series Composition: Hinata Natsu (“Kusuriya no Hitorigoto”, Hero Bunko)

A bright, positive, light-attribute large person. How much would that enrich the world? That’s how I came up with the story for “Femme Fatale ~”. I’ve written stories about perfect “Spadali” (super darling) characters who were perfect except for their weight before, but sadly no sequels came out. I know. Good-looking people and beautiful things are preferred. Yes, I like them too. So let’s do it. Wouldn’t it be perfect if a light-attribute large person became beautiful? This completely wild story is becoming a Ranobe Anime. I aimed for a loose, fun, and positive story. Please look forward to it.

Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku: Script: Kawagishi Nagareo

I am Kawagishi Nagareo, in charge of the script. This time, the goal was simply one thing. To deliver the charm of Hinata Natsu-san’s story as is, as much as possible. To deliver the charm of Hinata-san’s characters and the fun of their exchanges without losing anything, while still keeping to the required length! And somehow cover up the parts that were impossible due to various circumstances! I am bravely tackling such tasks. As a result, I believe it has become an interesting story. Please enjoy this bizarre diet comedy!

Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku: Character Design: Okeno Kamoku

Congratulations on the anime adaptation of “Femme Fatale Ikusei Keikaku”! I felt considerable pressure with the keyword “lovable fat person” for the design, but receiving power from Hinata Natsu-sensei’s scenario, the protagonist Yuuki, packed with love and appetite, was born with a sharp look. I would also be happy if you could enjoy the appearance of characters with one or two quirks who won’t lose to Yuuki. When translating the character designs into 3D animation, they paid close attention to fine details and difficult shapes during production. I sincerely thank everyone involved in the work. I am also very much looking forward to Hinata Natsu-sensei’s happy and passionate story as one viewer!

Hello! I’m Nagatsuki Tappei, in charge of the original work for “Jack the Reaper”! This anime project started with a sense of speed, like “Nagatsuki-san, are you interested in a 5-minute anime project with a story?” “What’s that, sounds interesting!” The story was created with the concept of “5-minute length x Nagatsuki’s specialty x Protagonist suffers!” Everything is a new attempt, so the excitement is fresh for both the creators and the viewers! Now, to check what actually turned out, allow me to take your 5 minutes!

Jack the Reaper: Series Composition, Script: Usaki Usagi

I am Usaki Usagi, in charge of series composition and script for “Jack the Reaper”! When I first heard it was a 5-minute anime, I was surprised by the short length, thinking “Is this the weather forecast segment on the news!?” It’s a first attempt, and we’ve packed it with an overflowing amount of interest. If I were to describe it in terms of weather, this work is “despair,” sometimes “hope.” There will be refreshing moments that make you chuckle in places. Please fully enjoy the brave figure of the protagonist struggling and confronting challenges!

Marie Antoinette ni Tensei shitanode Zenryoku de Guillotine o Kaihi shimasu: Original Work, Series Composition, Script: Amano Shouko

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who, after reading “Versailles no Bara” as a child, wondered “How could Antoinette have avoided being executed?”. As an adult, I challenged myself with the premise, “What if an otaku girl who knows nothing of politics or economics, but only that the French Revolution will happen, reincarnated as Antoinette?”. Fujima Takuya-san’s beautiful character designs, the wonderful voice actors, and the gorgeous music breathe life into the incredibly dazzling solution that only anime can provide. Please join me in this exceptionally splendid story of Versailles. Oshi-katsu… banzai…! (Long live supporting your favorites!).

Marie Antoinette ni Tensei shitanode Zenryoku de Guillotine o Kaihi shimasu: Character Design: Fujima Takuya
