Berserk’s Long-Awaited New Chapter Appears in Young Animal #12 – Guts Sealed in a Shrine

The latest chapter of the manga Berserk has been published in Hakusensha’s young men’s manga magazine Young Animal No. 12, which went on sale June 12, 2026. This installment marks the first of three consecutive new chapters.

Guts Trapped in Darkness

In this chapter, Guts finds himself sealed inside a shrine. What will he see in the darkness? The series’ supervisor, Mori Kouji, announced the release on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing the difficulty of the episode. He wrote: “This is an episode that Miura agonized over for twenty years. Even for me, who heard about it dozens of times, it was quite tough… I managed to reach this point by repeatedly confirming the dialogue with Miura’s and my longtime mentor, our then-editor Shimada-san.”

Series Background

Berserk is a dark fantasy by Miura Kentarou, originally serialized in Monthly Animal House in 1989 before moving to Young Animal. It follows the brutal journey of protagonist Guts in a world of swords, magic, and monsters. After Miura’s passing in May 2021, the series went on hiatus. It resumed in June 2022 under the new production structure: “Original work by Miura Kentarou, manga by Studio Gaga, supervised by Mori Kouji.” Recently, the chapters have been published irregularly.
