Bandai Namco Filmworks and Bandai Namco Pictures have issued an official apology for production mishandling in the new Keroro Gunso film, Shin Gekijouban☆Keroro Gunsou: Fukkatsu shite Soku Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!, which opened in Japanese theaters on June 26, 2026.
Background of the Film
The movie is the first theatrical installment in 16 years since 2010’s Chou Gekijouban Keroro Gunsou: Tanjou! Kyuukyoku Keroro – Kiseki no Jikuu Shima de Arimasu!!. It is part of the anime’s 20th anniversary project, based on the manga by Yoshizaki Mine. Comedy hitmaker Fukuda Yuuichi, making his animation debut, serves as scriptwriter and general director. Bandai Namco Filmworks and Bandai Namco Pictures co-produced the film, with Bandai Namco Pictures handling animation production.
Apology Details
On June 25, Bandai Namco Filmworks posted a statement titled “Apology Regarding Production Mishandling in ‘Shin Gekijouban☆Keroro Gunsou: Fukkatsu shite Soku Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!'” on its official website. The statement reveals that certain scenes and expressions in the film that evoke other works “went against the intentions of some rights holders.” Specifically, for Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), the rights holder had clearly expressed opposition beforehand, yet due to a serious internal communication failure, production proceeded regardless.
The company apologized deeply: “We sincerely apologize for causing great inconvenience and concern to the relevant rights holders and to all who love these works. As a company that creates and protects works, we take seriously that we failed to fulfill our responsibilities with sincere and sufficient consideration.”
In response, the company stated it will “strictly review internal checking systems to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, we will strengthen management to ensure that confirmed content with rights holders and related parties is reliably reflected.” The statement also clarified that “the theatrical animation production staff, the original author Yoshizaki Mine, and the editorial department were not involved in this matter.”
